We only had time to visit Ake Ake for dinner, which was beautiful, but we weren’t able to sample the wines which is a little silly seeing as the restaurant is at the cellar door. I would’ve been very happy to purchase a wine sampler of, say, three small tastings to go with dinner but alas all I could do was have blind faith and choose a glass of something at random. Still, fabulous food!

On our recent tour of Northland we traveled 3700km and visited 16 vineyards and Breweries. Ake Ake may not have had the grandest buildings, but they did have the best wines. The wine maker (owner?) himself conducts the tastings so can explain why the same grape variety grown in certain parts of the vineyard can produce quite a distinctive taste to those grown in differing soil types and sun hours. Multiply that by the many grape varieties grown and the various vintages and you are in wine drinkers paradise. That's the great advantage of being served by the wine maker.

This was our second visit to Ake Are Vineyard Restaurant. We went with high hopes based on our first visit and these hopes were surpassed.

Being gluten free, french style dishes are often the forbidden fruit. The Coq au Vin was incredible as was the Char-Grilled Loin of Hawke's Bay Lamb.

The chocolate pot and cheesecake were also superb.

The staff are friendly, knowledgable and incredible at what they do.

You will not be disappointed with the food, wine or the service.

We had dinner at Ake Ake on Saturday 24th October. It was outstanding from start to finish. The staff were very professional and the food was absoluately delicious. The kingfish dish which was a special of the day was superb. The wine was just as good.

We will definitely go back when we are next in Kerikeri.

We ate here on our first night in Kerikeri and loved it so much we went back the second night. It had been recommended by our bnb at Lodore lodge and it was quite close to there so very convenient for driving to and from, the first night we had entrees as well as mains and desserts but hey we’re so generous that on the second night we just had main courses and dessert. All our choices were delicious! I had the duck the first night and my husband had the steak and both were really tasty. The second night I had the steak and my husband had the venison. The Thai fish Ake starter were tasty too. I really enjoyed the apple tart dessert. The service was great and the wines from the vineyard very nice.
