We stopped in to the Main street Deli for coffee and a bite to eat from the large choice of cabinet food or off the menu as I do when passing through previously. I understand they have changed management recently and was stoked the food is as great as it ever was if not better. The staff are always polite and willing to help ensure that even my dog has water.I usually have the potatoe cakes which are always tasty and filling with egg as well, but this time I ordered the Calamari for a change It was perfectly cooked and served with crisp fresh lettuce and lemon. The Wasabi mayo was as good as it gets. My Mother ordered the Eastern Lamb and commented on how delicious it was. My Nephew ordered the Seafood Chowder and being a chef himself wanted to commend the owner on what a fantastic tasting dish it was before we left. (and he would know) The slices we ordered for desert were freshly baked and really tasty. We asked for extra Yogurt and cream for the slices and were duly obliged with a more than ample amount without question. The food is well priced overall compared to the big city. Hard to find a nicer cleaner friendlier enviroment to sit in and enjoy well priced food while visiting the Wairarapa. It is often very busy which can only reflect the quality of the menu and staff. Great food great price and great atmosphere. Will definetly keep returning.

Being local and a beautiful day we decided to meet for lunch in the courtyard at Main St Deli for lunch. Having not been there since it changed hands seemed like a good opportunity to try it.

Awesome location...right in the centre of town on the main street. Beautiful courtyard that is well organised with tables and umbrellas...if not too busy you can even bring your dog!

Ordered lunch...and it was very disappointing. A calamari salad for $18 was about eight rings of calamari on a handful of coleslaw (looked like the pre-made) sitting on two iceberg lettuce leaves. The wedge of lemon was dry - literally no juice and the wasabi mayo was fine but nothing to excite you. Overall seemed to be an expensive and pedestrian dish.

My friend had the potato cakes...note its cakes with an s. But it wasn't. It was one potato cake.

We decided we needed cake and coffee. The blueberry cake was very sweet with very little flavour and had an inch of whipped cream all over the top....not sure it was necessary or was it hiding something. I asked for yogurt on the side and got maybe two teaspoons of yogurt in a little dish. The coffee was ok.

Overall..not an impressive visit..won't be rushing back...

Nice place, great courtyard out the back and the service was good but - the food portions are very small for the price. I had the potato cakes - should have read potato CAKE as I only got the one - with a 'roasted' tomato on the side. ie half a tomato that had been heated up in he microwave - definitely not roasted! My friend had the calamari salad which was a few iceberg type leaves with a bit of dry coleslaw. We had cake for dessert and asked for yoghurt - we got what looked like a couple of teaspoons worth. Will go back for a coffee but not the food - unless they up the ante!

Good coffee and cake. Very nice toilets but you need to clean the tables as well as clearing them. A number of tables had crumbs all over the & we don't like having ours in amongst other people's debris.

wouldn't call it deli food. Two club sandwiches a wrap and coffee and one slice $34 kind of expensive for coffee lounge type food. The food tasty but only average. Served by the same guy that bought over our food and he said on delivering "is that all" we thought well you took our order at counter should have remembered as not that busy.
