I was traveling with a retired California lobster trapper who can't pass up a chance to check out the Australian way of doing things. We were here last year and enjoyed it so much, we couldn't wait to see it again. Imagine our surprise! Last year it was more like a shack. This year it’s more like an upscale restaurant! However, fresh lobster is good no matter where you are in the world. We’ve eaten fresh lobster on three continents now.

The tour of the lobster packing and exporting business was very thorough. It is impressive how they have automated the tour so that anybody coming in and basically start right away using the handheld audio device. This doesn’t disrupt anybody working in the business and everything Is explained quite thoroughly.

This year we skipped the tour and went straight for the fresh lobster. Service was quick and it was fun to chat up the locals and out of country workers using their time to extend their visas.

Lunch arrived and the lobster was perfect! The fried rice was excellent as a side dish, the french fries were perfectly fried, and the Honest Ale from Margaret River was satisfying. I can't wait for my next trip to Australia. If I'm in Cervantes again, I'll be at the Lobster Shack. See you then!

We, being from Rockingham and friends from Mullaloo and Mt Isa, all went to the lobster shack on Friday the 28th of September. OMG what a waste of time and money. None of us enjoyed our lunch. The only thing that was half decent were the bucket of prawns but served with a horrible bun. Two of us got the crayfish with the medalions, well the medallions were like rubber and would be more suited for a tennis ball and the crayfish was bland, dry and totally tasteless. The fish and chips were grilled and were well and truly overcooked, dry and tough. The pricing would be more for a whole crayfish $43 for half with 3 tennis balls, oopss sorry medallions. You may be getting top dollar from your tourist buses but don't compromise quality, freshness and taste, as they might stop coming as well.

We were there for lunch enroute to the Pinnacles Desert and were not disappointed. Though the price was not exactly cheap but food was quite nice. Would recommend this place if you are in the vicinity and don't mind paying a bit more.

The lobster processing facility has walkways over the tanks bubbling away with aerated sea water to keep the lobsters happy while they are being purged, sedated and then snugly packaged for shipment from Cervantes to China/Japan/USA and Europe by air - ready for the live lobster markets the following day. The commentary is informative and interesting.
We saw live lobsters from grade A (a few hundred grams) to H (about 2.3kgs i.e. 23 years old!) . Those that wished to could hold a live lobster for a photo.
These WA rock lobsters don't have big nippers so you can safely hold one!

And you can eat freshly cooked lobster (and other local seafood) in the restaurant too!
