“Thorn brand synonymous with excellence”
Reviewed 14 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

I wholeheartedly concur with all of the superlatives listed in previous reviews, which accurately reflect the high standard of this property. Owners Michael and David are KI royalty and you will be completely satisfied in your dealings with them.

The house is fully equipped and the kitchen well appointed and generously stocked with condiments etc. Beds are super comfortable, plenty of linen, towels etc. We had great weather so deck was in constant use - amazing views over Penneshaw and Frenchman's rock Beach, which is lovely for a relaxing stroll at the waters edge.

Location is super handy to the ferry but being on the eastern end of this very large island I agree with previous comments about considering exactly what you want to do on KI before choosing your accommodation. However I would not stay anywhere else after experiencing the magic of this Thorn property.

There is something quite enchanting about the KI experience and staying at this property enhances that intangible feeling of wellbeing that sitting on that deck feeding wallabies and kangaroos whilst eating a local platter and sipping on local vino brings. I will be back!

Highly recommended.

“Fantastic View”
Reviewed 4 December 2015 for a stay in November 2015

This was a very comfortable house with very good facilities/appliances and in a really beautiful place. It's a steep but easy walk into Penneshaw but a really steep walk back so not suitable for all, but the facilities are so good that just staying in the house, sitting and eating on the deck, relaxing and enjoying the view makes it a perfect holiday stay. Would definitely recommend it highly.

“Fabulous place to stay where the ferry comes in”

We stayed a week at Thorn Park. It is the most generous accommodation I believe I have ever encountered.

Our aim was to relax on Kangaroo Island, cook up a storm, go bushwalking every day and see the many beautiful sites.

The house is fabulously appointed, and it has a great view. I would heartily recommend it for two couples who want to spend time catching up whilst cooking up a storm in the kitchen with a glass or two of wine. The pantry has everything you need and more. And the local supermarket was very well equipped when supplies ran low.

Beside the kitchen is the sound system, with the most impressive array of CD's and records I have seen since the mid 80's! So you can play music whilst you whip up epicurean delights together.

Evenings were spent either playing cards, rummicub, having in-depth discussions whilst listening to music or even watching a DVD from the extensive library on hand. It really is like staying in your own place, and that makes it really special.

The place is really made for two couples. There are two bedrooms and bathrooms and ample space between them to not feel cramped or under each others feet.

The weather was not very kind whilst we were there so we did not spend much time on the deck, but that looked wonderful too, with beautiful sunsets to enjoy over the sea and views to the mainland. With bad weather, it was a tremendous excuse to stay in and relish everything the home had to offer.

We had hoped to do some walking. There is only one bush walk we could ascertain that you could do without needing to drive. And that's the rub. If you want to enjoy the natural amenity that Kangaroo Island has to offer, I am not certain Penneshaw is the best place to do it from. We went down to the National Park at the other end of the island, but it was a decent hike. We did it one day and weren't keen to do it again on account of the distant - around 150 kms there and 150 kms back.

So my advice is, if you want a really special place that you will enjoy for itself, either by yourself or with one or two friends, this is the place. If you want to spend time bush walking in Kangaroo Island to commune with the nature then perhaps looks elsewhere; maybe in the middle of the island or on the coast towards the National Park end.

“Stylish, well appointed accomodation, with fabulous views.”
Reviewed 28 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We decided to spend out 30th wedding anniversary exploring Kangaroo Island. Thorn Park on the Island was a lovely base. The spacious, beautifully decorated home, with fabulous views was very inviting at the end of a day sightseeing. You could easily just laze on the deck and take in the view or spend the day reading or listening to music selected from the extensive library. Wallabies to greet us in the morning and evening is a nice touch. We only had four days, but we're already planning our next visit. Next time we'll stay a week so that we can really enjoy all that Thorn Park on the island has to offer. :)

“Pure Bliss”
Reviewed 9 April 2015 for a stay in March 2015

We recently stayed at Thorn Park on the Island. David and his partner have created the perfect haven for a KI escape. The house is well situated with splendid views of the Penneshaw township and bay. It is comfortable, luxurious and well equipped for the keen cook. The Island has plenty of produce to purchase and at the end of the day, relax with a lovely glass of KI wine purchased on a visit to the wineries and dine in style with the produce. We had a thoroughly enjoyable 5 nights and hope to take some friends with us next time to enjoy the house. Wallabies come to feed in the morning and night time and a quick drive gets you down to the shoreline to have a penguin walk.
