That is an interesting place by itself, with mosaic floor, Spanish-style windows and view from above, but it's been neglected for a while. The lighthouse is surrounded by rusty water tanks, dilapidated shacks and signs saying 'Do not enter'. The trail to and from it is quite scenic, although short.

It is the only remaining Spanish-era structure in the Culebra archipelago. Construction of the lighthouse began on September 25, 1882. The Culebrita Lighthouse was registered on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on October 22, 1981. After many storms, the lighthouse nearly collapsed. It is now being repaired. Word has it that by next year a restoration project will begin, so hikers may not be able to get near the lighthouse.
Look out for wild goats on your walk - they jumped across trail and almost scared me to death, I thought it was a chupacabra. But no worries they kept to themselves.

It is hot on this little island. And inland it gets hot fast. The hike is not tough to do, but it is hot to do. But the end result is an amazing view, and incredible structure, and a great time to be had.

Find Captain Dave on Culebra... take the boat ride there... make the hike up the hill. ENJOY! WOW! Absolute best view in Puerto Rico... Bluest, Clearest Water I've ever seen, and you can see all sides of the island from pretty much 2 spots. WOW!

Get there and hike up to this lighthouse and climb to the top! It is scarey, just a bit(!), but soooo worth the spectacular views from the top! It is slated to be completely refurbished and will turn into something quite different... probably touristy I am afraid, so go now while it is so amazing as a piece of history.
