“Took a long Time for me to Write This”

It took a while for me to share my thoughts on this. The reason being that it is a superb location, and I thought maybe, just maybe, I might like to return. I have decided I will not. I rented The Pink House in Jan 2009. The problem was that the people taking care of the property were not doing their job. This could be one of the best rental homes in the Caribbean. It is a shame.
Upon arrival, the place was filthy. Sand, grime, and hair everywhere, not to mention the used condom in the fruit basket on the kitchen counter. One of the toilets in an upstairs bedroom had a shampoo bottle lodged in it, and would continue to back up occasionally during our stay. The downstairs air conditioned bedroom had a water penetration problem from the outside. It seems the villa may have been constructed on top of a natural rainwater flow from the surrounding hilside [how about a french drain?]. We had to put quilts on the floor every day to absorb the water, and mop the floor. The quilts were hanging outside on the clothesline when we arrived--we quickly figured out what they were for.
An accomodation can be rustic, no problem. The filth and grime, not to mention the condom, was repulsive.
In the owners defense, a cleaning crew was sent there that afternoon. However, this was a major disruption of what should have been a vacation day. I did not feel the owners offer to "go down to the soggy dollar and run a tab on me" was adequate. I intended to make my own drinks and enjoy a spectaculer setting, not clamor for a drink at an EXTREMELY busy bar, so someone could buy it for me.
Great location, wasted space.

This is it gang...leave it all behind and find you piece of paradise...Get up in a.m. hike, snorkel, kayak, run...then sleep on the sugar sand beach all day, the blender and cold drinks are steps away..relax in the hammock..have evening cocktails, then stroll down the beach to dinner at Soggy Dollar have a good time at Ivans then do it all over again...The locals are so friendly and helpful..and the owners have made certain that everything you need is there for a stress free getaway!! Can't wait to go back, next time the group will be larger and rent both villas...Large groups should consider renting a Super Cat as well..You can anchor right off the beach and day sail the rest of BVI

“Going back March 2012”

We stayed at the Pink House Oleander March 2011 for 8 nights. The villa is totally incredible. Our friends came with us on their first trip to JVD. The villa had all the amenities from a full kitchen to a washer/dryer. The W/D was awesome because we hardly had to pack anything for the trip. Definitely have provisions sent over from Bobby's Market on Tortola. It was sweet every morning eating breakfast on the deck looking over the Caribbean waters. Also, we would make sandwiches for lunch to take over to Soggy Dollar for the afternoon.
The booking procedure was a breeze with Robert. Frankie was a lot of help on the island while we there. He helped us out with getting some of our provisions which did not arrive from Tortola.
We have been going to Jost Van Dyke for about the past 4 years. We discovered it on a Windstar cruise and fell in love with the island. March is a great time to go. We have been to JVD in October for Foxy's Halloween Party a few times as well. The island is awesome as well as the people who live there.
We have already planned our return to the Pink House in March 2012. We cannot wait to get back to our piece of paradise on Jost Van Dyke.

“My favorite place ever... 7 year old daughter”
Reviewed 27 November 2010 for a stay in August 2010

I was traveling back to the BVI's and could stay on a few islands of choice. I chose Jost Van Dyke for its beauty and ease with children. My daughters are 10 and 7 and had a ball!
They could safely go the few steps to the beach and play in the see-through gorgeous water all day if we let them! They hunted for shells and small snails, they could snorkel right off our beach and the adults could go out to the point for great snorkeling a little farther. My days consisted of waking to beautiful weather everyday (one afternoon shower for 20 minutes or so b/c it was August), lounging on the beach and listening to tunes streaming from The Pink House with a cocktail in hand, walks over to Ivan's Stress-Free bar or Soggy Dollar for the flying fish sandwich for lunch, back to the Pink House beach all afternoon for more sun and fun, then finally a great dinner cooked either at the Pink House (SUNSETS ARE AMAZING THERE!) or out and about with the locals...It is paradise in a stress-free place...No need for a hair dryer or fancy clothes or lots of luggage. Bring your camera! The locals are great. Frankie and Lydia that took care of the Pink House were welcoming and had numbers and names of places to go. Consider taking a boat around to the other islands for a day trip- the adults and kids loved snorkeling and exploring other places as well, each unique...I am set to go back in 2011 and can't wait...I am bringing carry-ons only, no big suitcase, plenty of bathing suits, bug spray, tanning lotion, camera, a journal to write about this amazing place and its 180 or so people on the island, and cash for taxis. (not many needed, but you might want to travel to the other side of the island) My 7 year old has already asked when we can go back! Thanks Pink House for so many wonderful memories!

“Paradise”
Reviewed 24 September 2010 for a stay in October 2009

Went in Summer 2009 with friends and it was paradise. Splitting the Pink House 6 ways for 1 week was about $700/person (then about another $700 for airfare). It was pure paradise. Our beach was 99% private - there's one other house that can use it but rarely did during our stay. The best part was that a short five minute walk over a hill and you were at party central! But our side of the hill was quiet and peaceful.

The facility itself was fine - it's hot and buggy - so don't forget lots of bug spray. 1 room had an ac unit the other two just had ceiling fans and in August - that's hot. Buying food & drinks is expensive on the island - so pack a suitcase with dry goods - much cheaper! (Pasta, drink mixes, crackers, anything non-perishable) The restaurants on Jost weren't that great so this was nice because we could cook our own meals. You have to buy groceries on Tortola and bring them over on the ferry though - so plan for that.

Really the island is the selling point - it's paradise. The Pink House was great though - there's a huge deck, nearly private beach and everything you need. We had a fantastic trip!

And don't forget to get a Painkiller at the Soggy Dollar Bar!

Also - the internet is mediocre at best - but if you're here - shut off your computer and enjoy the beach! Also - there are lots of kitties roaming around - we had 4 tiny visitors that hung around as well as random dogs that would stop by from time to time.
