We traveled to Chartwell by train and taxi. It is a 15 minute train ride from London Charing Cross to Sevenoaks Station in Kent. Taxis are waiting that can take you in less than 15 minutes to Chartwell for about 15 pounds; schedule a return taxi to go back to Sevenoaks station. On a sunny day, the grounds of Chartwell are lovely, including a walk to the gardens and Churchill's painting studio. Make sure to see the Churchill War Rooms in London before visiting Chartwell. Hever Castle also is nearby in Kent.

I went to Chartwell today with my sister and aunt.
We were lucky with the weather it was lovely and sunny.
The grounds are great with breathtaking views of rolling countryside.
The guides in the studio were excellent with good knowledge.
The house is great, again the staff are excellent with plenty of knowledge.
The cafe was good, the only down fall was the queuing for the cafe... Plenty of seating for all.
Would definitely go back.

We spent the whole day at Chartwell and was not disappointed. We had prebooked a timed entry into the house and also booked a tour of Churchill's family life in the house. Excellent first rate and knowledgeable guides.

As it was Halloween week and half-term school holidays, Chartwell had more than usual children running around and shouting. They were having fun doing a pumpkin Halloween search but maybe some parents should consider some of the older guests without children.

Having said that Chartwell was very interesting and well worth the trip. We will return again when it is less busy and do the trip over again.

A special thanks to all the Chartwell Staff who made our trip very enjoyable.

Not our first visit to Chartwell, but each time we find new things to see and do. It was particularly useful this time to think more about Churchill's early life - we realised that all we knew of him was from his wartime period onwards, but he was already 65 when the war began. We also need to see more of the park.

really enjoyed an afternoon visit here a couple of weeks ago. we had timed tickets for 14:00 and we´d booked the late afternoon tour of the house. we arrived early enough to allow us time to visit the ground, gardens and house at our own pace. all quite wonderful and particularly lovely on a sunny september day. sadly our timing wasn´t as perfect as we hoped...the interval between own unguided wanderings (excellent room stewards...most helpful, knowledgeable and friendly) thru the house and the guided tour didn´t leave us enough time to visit the studio. in hindsight we´d have been better spending our whole afternoon in the grounds, studio and garden and entering the house only at the time of our guided tour. the tour was indeed very good but other than actually seeing the great man´s bedroom and private bathroom it didn´t add any further insight into what we´d already learned. no matter...we´ll visit the studio and take a tour of the gardens next time. TIP...remember to visit cafe and shop BEFORE late afternoon tours and you will need to walk back to VIC and car park after tour. i´ll admit i was well and truly grateful for a sit down by the time i reached my car.
