We stayed this weekend and had a great time, the rooms are basic but comfortable and have all you need.
The breakfast is great quality and the staff are friendly & helpful.
Its in a great location near to great bars,shops & resturants, we first visited 4 years ago and will definately be back.

As other reviews, the Hotel is dated but the service was great and the place was clean. Does need an update and Newport is noisy at night, and as the weather was so hot, it didn’t help having the windows open. Plenty of shops, pubs and restaurants close by.

Ive read some of the negative reviews about this Hotel, thankfully my friend went ahead and booked for three nights in July 2018. We have stayed on the Isle of Wight before but this time there were no vacancies at our normal accommodation.
We were foot passengers from Hampshire this time, so we needed somewhere central and within our limited budget to stay. We chose Calverts as it ticked all our boxes, Newport: it's shops, tourist information, cinema, places to eat literally on the doorstop and the bus station a five minute walk away.
All in all Calverts itself, apart from a plumbing issue in the next door room late one evening, was very kind to us, yes it is a bit dated but we had everything we needed. The room was fine, clean and tidy as was the bathroom, bath or shower that worked fine, windows in each room that opened, although we closed them at night as there could have been noise issues from the town. We were on the top floor and thankfully didnt need a lift. Tea and coffee making facilities, hairdryer, sufficient towels, soap, glasses etc were all there. The Staff were very friendly and helpful, breakfast was lovely, juice, cereals, full english and more. There was a bar and plenty of sofas where you could sit & relax with a drink or nightcap.
I think this Hotel deserves a positive review, yes there is work to be done, the owner should take heed of the reviews, the staff were great and deserve some praise for their hard work. Thank you Calverts for looking after us during our three nights with you, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay xx

Room tip: Speak to the Hotel if you need special requirements

Went to Calvert s hotel as we could not get Travelodge , big mistake it's very rated and I was in the shower put shampoo on my head and the hot water just stopped and the cold was freezing. Would not recommend.

Room tip: Don't know if there is any.

Breakfast = poo
Room = poo
Hygiene = poo
Pool table = ripped poo cloth
No beers on draught
16 steps within the bedroom
No shower
No hot water
Smartprice coffee at breakfast - also not allowed juice with breakfast if you choose tea or coffee

I will not stay here again, not will I even joke about recommending it. IF YOU WANT TO STAY HERE BRING YOUR OEN BED AND SHOWER.

Although, I must say I did enjoy leaving!
