“Back to prehistoric, medieval and Roman times in half a day”

Visiting the Archeon is worth the trip. We visited it on a sunny day.

Parking isn't free and I advise to look online for discounted tickets. It is worth the search. The park has 3 sections. Prehistoric, medieval and Roman times. The different sections are inhabited by actors who will tell you and show you how people lived, worked and played in those times.

Park has several kiosks and a restaurant to feed you and quench your thirst. Loved the stew and pancake dish and triple beer but it isn't cheap. If you bring kids stock up on drinks, food and (healthy) snacks.

Staff is friendly. If you want to see the Romand garizon and Gladiator fight...check times. It is not a full day visit. And if you visit at 10...you will be finished before 2 and miss the shows.

This is a very interesting museum looking at Dutch life from pre-historic through to the Middle Ages. Staff are dressed in character and there are many activities for children such as archery; paddling a dug-out canoe and having a Roman massage. Most staff can speak English so are able to tell you about the buildings and artefacts. There is a good guide book in English which is worth buying to give you information. Refreshments were tasty and good value and there were many places to have a picnic. The site is well set out with lots of greenery and a visit should take about 4 hours.

I had so much fun visiting Archeon. It is definitely a step into times past. As you walk through Archeon, you end up visiting different eras. It was definitely a hands on learning experience, that was so much fun. It beats sitting in a classroom having a teacher talk about it.
I very much enjoyed the Gladiator Fight. Yes, you read that right, there is a gladiator fight that takes place here and the day we went there was one scheduled, and it was so much fun to watch. I don't think they do them every day so you may want to research it before you go.
Walking through each of the staged areas made you feel fully immersed in the time that you were learning about. As well as getting to learn more from the "people" that were living in that time.
This definitely was a fun day that felt like it went by way to quickly. I would not feel bad about paying to go and visit there again one day.
You should visit, I am sure you won't regret it!

One can spend a full day exploring how ancestors lived and listening to the very knowledgeable guides.
All the buildings are reconstructions based on archaeological excavations in the Netherlands. As such they are spot on.
We visited in winter, and as such there were no crowds, and received plenty of attention and information from staff during our visit.
It was very informative for the young children in our group, and certainly expanded their horizons and knowledge.
Well wort it!

This open-air museum exhibits a number of reconstructions of actual archaeological finds such as a mesolithic hunter-gatherers camp, and farms from the Neolithic, Bronze age and iron Age, as well as splendid buildings from the Roman Period (such as a real size temple, bath house, arena) and even a small town with houses and an abbey from the Middle Ages. The parc has many re-enactors who demonstrate different crafts, and there are many activities for kids. Highly recommended.
