From the moment we arrived until the day we sadly had to depart, our stay was fantastic. We were picked up by shuttle driver Rui, who was fabulous. He drove us many times during our stay and each time he was efficient and delightful to talk with.
We arrived before check-in time and the reception staff held our luggage and suggested we relax and enjoy The Terrace. Upon entering The Terrace, we were greeted by Nasrine and Marta with a warm welcome and big smiles. We enjoyed a fantastic lunch and enjoyed conversation with both Nasrine and Marta. I had the Eden Health bowl and it was excellent. So good I had it again and again including for dinner. My husband loved the burger and had it a second time. The view on The Terrace is magnificent and the complimentary afternoon “cake” was enjoyed each day. The strawberry tart was our favorite.
We had two stays at the hotel. The first was for one night before heading to Wengen. We then came back for another four nights. Our first room was a standard room with balcony and was very comfortable in every way. For our second stay, we upgraded to room 311 which was amazing. We both said “wow” when we walked in. The layout is unique but we found it very comfortable. We had two separate balconies where I spent most of my time. The view was amazing. I enjoyed listening to the “cow bells” on the nearby sheep and goats along with the children enjoying the city pool, mini golf and beach down the hill and off in the distance from the hotel. It was not disruptive at all. At night, it was quiet and we slept well. The bed is very comfortable and is adjustable. There are two comfortable arm chairs, a table and desk. Wi-Fi was excellent. The espresso machine is great! There were nice homemade snacks on the desk along with complimentary large water bottles which were replenished There are two elevators in the hotel that also connect to the spa/pool area.
The breakfast was in the elegant dining room and had an excellent variety of foods including freshly cooked items upon request. They had gluten-free items and lactose free milk. We were delighted to see Marta and Nasrine at breakfast each day. The coffee was delicious. The service by everyone was excellent.
We did not purchase half-board but were able to eat in the dining room each evening. We chose from the a la carte menu. The offerings are essentially the same each night but it appears that the preparations change each week. The salmon was outstanding and my husband shared that his beef was also outstanding. The amuse bouche was delicious each night. The Pavlova berry dessert with homemade raspberry gelato was delicious. The service was excellent and formal but not stuffy. The wine selection is huge. I enjoyed the recommended Bordeaux every night.
I also want to mention Eskander at Reception who was very helpful, took time to talk with us, get to know us and was very efficient each time we came to the desk. He even picked us up once in the shuttle when Rui was busy with other duties. Jerome at reception was also wonderful. He found us bathing suits as we did not bring ours so we could enjoy the pool. When he saw us at other times, he always stopped to say hello and ask if he could do anything. Mr Muller and Ms. Boss are reception were excellent.
The hotel grounds are beautiful with a tennis court, beautifully landscaped grounds, lounge chairs and seating scattered throughout the garden for you to enjoy, an indoor pool and a lovely large jacuzzi, The pool is beautiful with a lovely view. The hotel even planted beautiful wildflowers and greenery on the roofs of the pool and dining room so when I was out on my balcony, I did not look at a rooftop but beautiful flowers. The attention to detail is apparent throughout the property. Thank you, it was appreciated.
Unfortunately, we had one bad experience with Christian, the “sub” Maitre ‘d. On our last night they decided to open The Terrace for dinner even though it was 85 degrees out. Apparently, there weren’t as many tables on the Terrace as when we arrived in the dining room as usual, we were abruptly asked if we had a reservation, which we did. We were told by Christian that we can sit in the dining room and then he left. We were one of three tables in the dining room with one server who had only been at the restaurant for two days. He did his very best, was attentive and pleasant. We asked to talk to Christian about an issue with the entree that night. He came, was very curt, his phone rang, he answered and then he disappeared to never return. It ruined our dining experiences at the hotel which had been excellent up until then. Having said that, the staff in reception, dining/bar with one exception and housekeeping were all excellent so we will not let this one incident with one person affect our delight with the hotel.
I highly recommend staying at the Hotel Eden Spiez. We will hopefully be back one day soon.
