“Visit to market at Manacor”
Review of Manacor

Manacor
Reviewed 24 July 2016

We got a local bus (25 mins) to nearby town of Manacor, on the Monday morning of our holiday, to visit the market there. It's a nice town and a really good and large market. Mix of clothes, toys, food.

We caught the train to Manacor from Palma. Manacor itself is nice enough but nothing special, you would not call it a pretty quaint place.
The town centre is about 10 to 15 minutes walk from the train station and has the advantage that it is not a tourist town, so you see a little of a ‘real’ place.

We did not do the pearl factory as I had been before and it is a little out of town. My advice is if in a car, yes go and have a look but the 10-15 minute walk each way in the baking sun is not worth it, unless you want the exercise or are looking to buy something.

A word of note. We were there on a Saturday, a busy day you would think, however just after lunch everything closed, presumably for a Siesta. I am told there is a market on Monday mornings, so this would be a good day to go.

One of the best bits for me was the train from Palma. The train is modern and the views through the Mallorca countryside are good. A point of note, just after Inca, the train stops and you have to get out to change trains from an electric to a diesel, if you stay put you will end up going back towards Palma.

Manacor is a small city, tucked away from all the busy things on Mallorca. I had the chance to visit it during a half marathon so there was plenty of things to do. It's certainly worth it as it has this relax-and-enjoy kind of atmosphere. I have fond memories of this place.

Good for a stroll round the Market on a Monday morning. Loads for kids to look at, including a performing goat. Lots of nice cafes up near the Cathedral. Avoid the expensive excursions take the local bus.

We took the train from Palma, went to Petra first, then to Manacor. Know that the train is every hour, and you switch trains in Inca. There is one train from Inca to Manacor, it goes both directions. I think. So if you get off in Petra, you will need to reboard with a new ticket for Manacor. (Petra is where St. Junipero Serra is from) From the train station at Manacor, you exit, and go around the station straight for a few blocks, the turn left for about a mile walk to the pearl places. At the time we went, the streets were deserted, and nothing was open but the pearl sales. There are two competing, the authentic is Majorica. It has been visited by kings and queens, and their pearls are seen at major events in Europe and the world. There's really not too much to do in Manacor. By the way, Rafael Nadal is from here.
