Loved the kind and helpful staff, AND the location!

Review of Hotel Balear
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 Jun 2018
I loved my stay at the Hotel Balear. The entire staff was kind and helpful (and patient) AND the location is perfect. You get to be moments from the beach without "on the beach" prices. Breakfast is delicious, and the room was the perfect size, clean, and with a big balcony overlooking the square. I was pleased with everything about my hotel and would happily recommend it and stay there again!

Unfortunately we did not know that room 101 was the worst and got it. We did complain but no change. This was no family room, there were 2 single beds in a dark, stinky, windowless corridor with a noisy fridge beside and then a tiny room with a double bed. Both nights we couldn't sleep until 4 am for the noise, but no change of room, no help from staff, they just called our neighbours again and again but did not intervene. All is very old and worn down, extremely old bathroom. Coffee at breakfast is the worst you can imagine. Breakfast is not too bad but not particularly good either.
Location is fine but finding a parking spot can be difficult.

Room tip: Never accept room 101, it's apparently the worst.

Good location. Room was big enought but the bathroom was small and the shower was nightmare🙈. Its because of shower curtain. We spend there only one night, so it was ok for so short stand. But not for more and its because of shower. Breakfast was good for this type for hotel.

This is a simple, family run hotel with basic amenities - if you want 5 star not for you. The staff are courteous and helpful, rooms clean and comfortable. Good choice at breakfast - to suit all (and for those comments I've seen busy at breakfast - doh - it's a hotel!!). Also, considering it's in a busy square, quiet in the evenings) - the hotel was very full but no noise in the corridors during the night (may be different in summer). I enjoyed my stay and would go back.

Room tip: 3rd or 4th floor

hotel
The hotel is an old establishment with character. The lobby invites you to sit back and relax. The ride with vintage elevator was always a thrilling adventure.

location
The hotel is located in the center of Can Pastilla. It faces the lovely square where old people leisure on benches and every other day there is a market with fresh fruits.

staff
Friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks perfect English.

room
Well, I guess rooms differ from each other. Ours was quite small. It was located next to staircase so we heard late guests climbing the stairs or people playing the pool in the lobby. The walls were extremely thin - we heard the noises from surrounding rooms. The noise of flushing the toilet from the room above was loud as well. The room could be a bit cleaner - there were stains in the shower and on the wall. The old-fashioned air conditioner was sometimes switching on even when it wasn't supposed to (even with the balcony door open). There were quite nice balcony facing the small quiet street.

baby
We had an extra paid crib. Our room was quite small, so there was not much place for our one-year-old to play. The room was quite loud so sometimes it was difficult to put him to sleep.

breakfast
The breakfasts were very tasty. It was the general standard of good quality. Apart from regular dishes everyday there was something new - like small chicken kebabs on the sticks or fresh melons. Good coffee.

summary
I liked the general old-fashioned atmosphere of the place. And I liked the breakfast which were always a pleasant surprise. So if I were there only with my wife I would give 5 stars. But since we were there with small kid, next time I would look for more modern place.

We were prepared for a cheap and functional stopover after arriving at PMI late in the evening. On arrival the hotel was fine; dated and in need of refurbishment but ok. It was well located about 100 metres from the beach and we had a family room with a seperatly sleeping area for the children. Unfortunately we did not manage to get much sleep because of the proximity to a disco music bar ( just opposite our first floor balcony). It wasn't the music, just people shouting, talking and smoking outside until 4 am. Someone also randomly threw a pack of ham onto our balcony! The breakfast was not much in a basement room with off milk - if I hadn't been sleep deprived it might have been ok. We weren't asked about our stay on departure. I think we were unlucky with our room location so I'm not saying avoid completely - just check where your room is. Maybe the front ones are quieter....
