Photos don't do this place justice! Cortijo Carranque is a charming, beautifully restored property. Angela and Martin are generous and welcoming, and guests made to feel very much a part of their family. I enjoyed evening meals with very pleasant company, superb food, great wine, and a beautiful outdoor setting.

I went seeking rest and I certainly found it! The surrounding countryside is perfect for walks and exploration. Hearing herds of cows and sheep with their bells was really novel. The pool is small but surrounded by lovely gardens and orchards. The courtyard is a perfect place to read a book, with the fountain bubbling in the background. I also made use of the small chapel several times. The river is just a couple minutes walk away, and even though it was low due to a drought, it was still beautiful and worth exploring. I happily occupied myself for a whole week without ever leaving the property except for daily walks and runs.

If, however, one wants to explore Andalusia, this is easily done with excursions to nearby beach resort towns (Fuengirola, Marbella), Malaga, or Ronda (highly recommended!). Buses run these routes, but check the schedules in advance... renting a car may fit your needs better.

“ONE IN A MILLION”

I was lucky enough to spend 3 blessed months on sabbatical at this incredible place from March to June of this year. Taking a break from the pace of a busy ministry life, to rest and rejuvenate both my body and soul at Cortijo Carranque was one of the best things I ever did for myself!

From the moment I arrived to this beautiful place filled with love and beauty, my spirit was filled with peace. Watching the spring flowers come to life on daily mountain walks in the surrounding mountains, laughing with other Carranque guests over wine at the evening meal, or solitary time in the garden or pool in the orange orchard.....take your pick of the stuff you always imagined for your downtime!

You won't find rowdy tourists around here in the country, but you will hear cowbells in night. And don't expect to run out to a strip of restaurants, but you won't want to with Angela's cooking. (and you can be in Coin town if you WANT to anyway in 15 minutes) I was like everyone else I met there.....arrived with great plans to "do" many things......but somehow Carranque just instantly grabs your spirit, relaxes it, and makes you not want to get up and leave to do anything!

It's definitely a special place to relax alone, as a couple, family or group of friends. And if you don't come with family there, you will find you are a part of one if you wish to be. Except for those not seeking a charming, relaxing spot in the country mixing new world conveniences and old world charms, it would be difficult to imagine anyone who wouldn't love this wonderful gem of a place.

Angela & Martin's resident managers Rafi & Pepe will make sure you experience all of the special kindness, care, and hospitality that is a part of Andalucian culture and life.

For stays of longer than a week, or if you want to explore the town and surrounding areas actively, I do recommend a car. Lots of wonderful places within a couple of hours and bus transportation (from Coin town) to many interesting places within a few hours is easy for anyone. Due to rural nature of property and surrounding areas, Carranque is best suited for people without any mobility issues and for families without easily bored teenagers who have only ever seen a tree in Xbox virtual reality.
