When we arrived our room wasn't quite ready which meant we had to sit by the pool sipping beer (actually my wife had a cocktail). This was great because it forced us to slow down and really look at the grounds and gardens which were lovely. The staff were very obliging and spoke fluent German and English as well as Portugese. Breakfast was gorgeous with the choice of sitting inside or as we did every day, outside in the sunshine. We didn't have any other meals at Quinta as it seemed a bit pricey but there were several really excellent restaurants nearby. We spent a day in the spa and emerged max-massaged and relaxed ready for a swim in the outdoor pool. I would definitely go back.

We enjoyed our stay in Quinta Splendida. The hotel is very cosy, the garden is wonderful. If you travel with toddlers don’t miss the playground in front of the hotel close to Cafe do Jardim. Try also the coffee at the Cafe do Jardim.

Beautiful setting. Grounds clean and well kept. Units cleaned daily. No microwave and stove/oven very basic but certainly met our needs. Small grocery around the corner and much larger one with fresh seafood and bakery a 10 minute walk away. There is a cab stand in front of large store and ride back to resort around 3 euro. We did not eat onsite but found 2 good restaurants in easy walking distance. We did not book any day tours from the resort as we had pre booked from other companies that picked up and dropped off at resort. The on site spa is worth a visit. Loved the Island of Madeira. Only reason I did not give sleep quality a perfect score is the mattresses were too firm for my taste- but than is really nit picking. Resort at night was quiet- no noise problems. This was one of my best timeshare experiences in Europe.

A beautiful resort, impeccably clean, set in acres of botanic gardens with salad and vegetables grown for use in the restaurants. Apartment cleaned every day with fresh towels. Large outdoor swimming pool, two bars in addition to restaurants and spa. The food taken a la carte in the main Galleria restaurant was exceptional and would rival top restaurants across the world. It was so good we took dinner every night in this restaurant. Good menu with lots of local as well as international dishes beautifully presented. Dinner for two with a minimum of 2 courses with wine and coffee cost less than 60 euros per night. RCI timeshare members get 15% discount on dinner taken a la carte. Don't forget to ask for more vouchers in reception for each day. Breakfast was expensive at 17 euros each and so we only had one breakfast and then did our own all the other days using the supermarket just up the road 100m to the village centre. The fruit they stock is just wonderful. Also recommend the café and bakery before the supermarket which was amazing and try resisting their cakes. All in all a first class resort on a beautiful island, which I would recommend. We had a car and so getting about was not a problem, but I understand there is quite a good bus service with a stop just outside the resort and of course taxis literally just outside. The only negatives were as a an RCI timeshare member we had to pay 129 euros for a utility charge to cover water and electricity charges, which I thought were a bit steep and also they actually charge you to park a car overnight when you are staying at the resort. The charge was just under 4 euros a night.

Madeira is not just for old people. For keen walkers the scenery and flora are just stunning. Imagine six feet tall dandelions. Some of the walks are gentle strolls along the levada irrigation canals, others are really tough with steep climbs and precipitous edges. We recommend guided walks, it's fun to be in an international group and the guides are full of interesting information.
Quinta Splendida is a splendid hotel set in its own botanical garden, a paradise of exotic trees and plants. Rooms are mostly mini apartments with cooking facilities, although with three dining areas breakfast and dinner are excellen.
It's a twenty minute bus ride down to Funchal with a bus stop outside the hotel. The local village Canico has shops and restaurants, and a local office for booking walks and other tours.

Room Tip: Garden room
