My wife, dogs, and I had a great time at H'Owl at the Moon Farm.
+Great Kitchen (we cooked 3/4 of our meals during the week)
+Wonderful bird watching
+4-Wheeler trails make great hiking paths
+Perfect location for winery/brewery excursions
+15-min drive to small town of Scottsville for anything you may have forgotten/need (Like beer from James River Brewery)
+Everyone is super friendly and neighbors still look out for one another.
=This depends on how you feel about being unplugged because cell service is spotty at best. I have Verizon and got 2 bars of 3G in some spots and nothing in others. Shouldn't have been a big deal, but then the Stanley Cup Finals were happening so...
=You're in the woods. There WILL be wildlife. Mosquitos, ticks (small skinny ticks, big old fat ticks...), wasps, flies, hornets, mice, turtles, snakes, and deer were experienced around the property. Just be prepared and you'll be fine.
-Limited trash storage for a long stay. No issues if only a long weekend or you don't cook as much.
We stayed at H'Owl At The Moon for one glorious week and enjoyed every minute of it. The cabin itself is wonderful and so comfortable. The surroundings are beautiful. I had forgotten how beautiful central Virginia really is. When we wanted to hang around the cabin, we had hummingbirds, deer and wild turkeys to keep us company. Other days, we enjoyed visiting a local winery, going into Charlottesville, the coffee shop in Scottsville and my first time to try fly fishing in the Rockfish River. I felt much more human by the end of the week. Disconnecting in lovely, serene surroundings was the best thing we did this summer!
We had a wonderful time. Beautiful and secluded cabin. The house was Beautiful with a very spacious kitchen. We enjoyed watching the birds from the porch. We will be back.
a great place to get away from the world and enjoy the outdoors but a short trip to town for supplys great eating places around and a lot of history
we loved it and will go back asap!
