Love taking the jetty boat to st jo island. Everyone that works there is great and helpful. They have ice for purchase and carts for rental that are very helpful in taking your gear to the island

After a great brunch at Virginia's on the Bay, we decided to take a trip on the Jetty Boat for a Dolphin Watch cruise. Although a small operation, there was a small glass windowed, air-conditioned waiting room, a small gift shop area, and bathroom available for the guests. This is a small boat, with bench seating at the rail that extends around the perimeter for extensive viewing from all sides. We were on board with the Skipper and his First Mate, and another family on this sunny, but mildly cool afternoon. The Skipper knew just where the dolphins were frolicking about, so we were thrilled to watch and take pictures of these wonderful animals. The question was asked if the Dolphins were fed before our trip out, and Skipper explained "absolutely not!" He would be fined $10,000 if he were to do that. There were also two monster deep sea rigs in for repairs, so it was a treat to get "up close and personal" by boat. A fun way to pass an hour doing something different! Sun screen and a light wrap would be recommended on this outing.

This was a horrible experience! We went to St. Joe's Island to find some shells. We walked a couple of miles and didn't find a single shell. The boat only comes every hour, and for the first few hours, that is only if somebody else wants to come over. So you're trapped on the island if you find nothing there. We went over at 7 and called the office to see if there was a boat coming back. There was one coming at 8, and we said we would be there to go back. We got back to the dock a few minutes before eight, only to see the boat driving off. By the way, there are no restroom facilities on the island. So we just sat at the dock for another hour, basically wasting our time when we could have been doing something else. The captain was unfriendly - acted like he was mad at us for having to take us over. We had a guest from South Africa, and I was hoping to find shells for her, but with all the time wasted there, we didn't have another chance to go looking for shells. It was not at all as advertised (we were told there would be lots of shells there). Definitely not worth the visit.

We took the Sunset Dolphin Tour (4:30pm-5:30pm) for the kids to possibly see some dolphins swimming around the harbor. The captain was funny and he didn't talk the whole trip, which was nice! We saw lots of dolphins and heard a few stories about the lighthouse and some other facts about sunken ships in the area, etc. The other crew member was very helpful and polite. It was very warm that day with a breeze. The 1 hour trip was plenty of time out for the smaller kids and the teenagers as well. We reserved our party (11 people) in advance because this tour books fast since it's cheaper than the other tours in the area and they only take about 40-45 people. It's very much worth the money.

The Jetty Boat is the best value for your money anywhere on the island. We stayed over a holiday weekend and the main island beaches were packed, dirty and hectic with cars, motorcycles and campers. We found St. Jo island to be much more the serene beach experience we were looking for, and at $12 each the Jetty Boat was worth every penny. We came back and immediately signed up for the dolphin cruise and were not disappointed. Captain and 1st mate not only knew exactly where to go for the best porpoise experience, but were very personable and informative. We snapped some amazing shots of porpoises playing and the cruise was the highlight of our vacation.
