“Sunset Dolphin Tour”
Review of The Jetty Boat

The Jetty Boat
Reviewed 24 June 2016

We took the Sunset Dolphin Tour (4:30pm-5:30pm) for the kids to possibly see some dolphins swimming around the harbor. The captain was funny and he didn't talk the whole trip, which was nice! We saw lots of dolphins and heard a few stories about the lighthouse and some other facts about sunken ships in the area, etc. The other crew member was very helpful and polite. It was very warm that day with a breeze. The 1 hour trip was plenty of time out for the smaller kids and the teenagers as well. We reserved our party (11 people) in advance because this tour books fast since it's cheaper than the other tours in the area and they only take about 40-45 people. It's very much worth the money.

The Jetty Boat is the best value for your money anywhere on the island. We stayed over a holiday weekend and the main island beaches were packed, dirty and hectic with cars, motorcycles and campers. We found St. Jo island to be much more the serene beach experience we were looking for, and at $12 each the Jetty Boat was worth every penny. We came back and immediately signed up for the dolphin cruise and were not disappointed. Captain and 1st mate not only knew exactly where to go for the best porpoise experience, but were very personable and informative. We snapped some amazing shots of porpoises playing and the cruise was the highlight of our vacation.

Really enjoyed this tour. Got to see the dolphins and saw a few birds as well. Found the trip cheap, $12 each and the Captain was a lot of fun. You get to see a few places around Port Aransas as well. Well worth the money. They do a trip to St Joe's Island as well which i will do the next time i'm there

I ran in 5 minutes before the last boat to St. Jo's left at 4:00 and was able to get 4 tickets for my family. The guy at the counter was very nice and let me skip in line to make sure we made it out. The captain was very prompt, didn't say anything really but got us out the the island very quickly. There were only 4 other people with us on the island and I wish we would have just went there for the day instead of the county beach park in Port A. Very peaceful, lots of shells, very few people and beautiful water. We were also able to watch a dolphin family playing close by us while waiting on the return boat at 6:00. Do make sure that you are waiting by the pier promptly before 6pm!!! The captain WILL leave you there and you will be stranded for the night. I watched him leave a guy there that was running for the boat right as we pulled out and he did not stop!

This was a very low key tour, but fun and reasonably priced. There was no narration, which was a bit disappointing, although the skipper was more than willing to answer questions.

We covered quite a bit of the area during the hour, all within the inland waterway. There were a lot of dolphin encounters, which was really fun. We slowed way down so everyone was able to get a good view. There were quite a few young children on our trip and they all enjoyed it. There was not a lot of motion. Recommended.
