Description: One of the beauties of Mexico is its geographic location, with coasts on the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, which is connected to the Atlantic Ocean via the Florida Straits. From these waters comes a bounty of edible sea life, which is celebrated at Caracol, the award-winning restaurant of culinary team of Chef Hugo Ortega and Restaurateur Tracy Vaught. Caracol meaning “snail” in Spanish, was chosen as the restaurant’s name because of Chef Hugo’s fond memories of making ceviche de caracol (conch ceviche) in his brother Jose Luis’ kitchen at a resort in Playa del Carmen (see Hugo’s personal essay below). Our menu is a culinary tour along the Mexican coasts, which are shared by 16 of the country’s states.

We love Caracol! From the great cocktails to the raw coastal oysters and the amazing entrees - this is a great place to meet friends and enjoy an evening in a festive and fun atmosphere. The mojitos and margaritas are a delicious start to the meal. For an appetizer we are partial to the raw coastal oysters. While they do not have a gluten-free menu, many items on the menu are gluten-free and staff is well trained to help when ordering. My favorite entree is the pan-seared jumbo scallops served with roasted cauliflower, wild mushrooms, in a poblano sauce. It has just the right amount of heat, and scallops have always been perfectly cooked. For dessert we enjoyed the mango sorbet.

It was so refreshing to have Mexican food but with a totally different twist. The seared tuna was delicious. The chef's complimentary gazpacho was enjoyed by all. The tacos tronadores were very good. Dante, our server was exceptional. Catered to our every need.

Here’s the deal, I’m Mexican. I love restaurant like this that showcase Mexican cuisine and educate the populace that out no 1 ingredient isn’t sour cream or cheddar cheese. As a Mexican the plates needed heat my tongue needed to know I was home. For any other palate the food is perfect. I had delicious smoked oyster with chipotle, seafood tostada and a duck mole sope. Way way too sweet to be mole. Come, it’s good. Packed by 1/2 dozen roasted oysters with chipotle butter... mini seafood tostadas...sopes (thick tortilla w/ a lip) of duck with mole...pork taquitos. The mole was the only low moment- way too sweet

a lively restaurant populated by the beautiful people of Houston and their guests, birthday party revellers high on mescal and tequila and attentive service is a hall mark of this restaurant. A variety of sea food from across the Mexican coast competes with a well planned vegetarian menu. The scallops were fresh, the ceviche tasty and the assorted mezze platter delicious and well presented. Located in the midst of retain paradise the Galleria it is a convenient 15 - 20 min drive from downtown or the museum district.
