Worth the stop! Visited with the locals, only stopped to have a quick brew, left a few hours later. It’s a treat to enter a bar and be greeted by the staff and patrons. They even handed us some coins to play the juke box, and someone bought us a round for the table. Here’s to the staff and especially to the patrons. Loved the atmosphere and the High Dollar Ceiling. Check them out! Treated to a few ghost stories to boot.

Stopped for a cold beer. A very cool and eclectic interior surrounded us. There were dollar bills on the ceiling with names and comments on them. Memorabilia on the walls There were several friendly locals inside who greeted and welcomed us. The bar tender was very friendly.

Will have to come back to play shuffle board and knock back a couple of cold ones!

Stopped for a cold beer. Got a cold beer. Waitress friendly, as were the other patrons. Overwhelming stale smoke smell, part of the charm I guess. All kinds of cool things to look at inside.

Walking into this Tavern is like walking a back in time. It is rustic inside and seems like it has been untouched over the years. Kind of neat if you are into that kind of thing.

During the early 1950s, my family lived in a small town on the edge of the Texas Hill Country. One of my childhood memories is of going to the Devil's Backbone Tavern with my parents on Saturday nights and playing on the shuffleboard table while Mom and Dad tossed back a few "cold ones" and boot-scooted around the small dance floor to the music of a live band (yes, times have changed). Fast forward 60 years: While showing friends around the Hill Country on a rainy afternoon, we stopped by the Devils Backbone Tavern. We walked in to friendly greetings and the smell of cigarette smoke, and drank a long neck while listening to a live band. According to my memory, nothing had changed since 1954! This is a fun experience that gives some of the flavor of old-time Texas!
