Alexander Zaïd (1886 − 10 July 1938) was one of the founders of the Jewish defense organizations Bar Giora and Hashomer, and a prominent figure of the Second Aliyah. The monument is very impressive and has a wonderful view of the valley as well.

This sculpture of a man on a horse standing guard on top of the hill is a monument to an era, almost forgotten, in the history of jewish settlement in the Izrael valley in the early 20th century. With no protection from the authorities, various settlements and big land owners organized as a voluntary group called "HASHOMER" (the guardian) in order to protect their farms and their lives of attackes by arab and beduin villagers.
One of the most prominent figures was Alexander Zide, a true "weterner", whose family still owns the land around the monument.

The monument is located on top of a hill that overlooks the Kishon valley, the site of the ancient biblical battle between the israelites, led by the prophetess Dvora, and the cnaanites, led by Sisra. Today there is a fence containing the sculpture, since the original one had been stolen for the metal (China imprint on the world...) It is close to the Beit Shearim Park and can easily be combind/

After visiting the caves at Bet Shearim. we stopped by the road and made a walk up the hill. There is the monument built to remember Alexandes Zaid, from where a beautiful view of the area around. There still some excavation been made in the area. The family of Zaid lives there.
