“Disappointing”
Reviewed 26 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My first experience of a self catering in the USA. Disappointed because it is not near the town center, need to take car or taxi. Works out expensive. I would not call it a kitchenette, just a fridge , microwave and coffee percolator. Had to wash dishes in the bathroom's hand basin, very awkward. Long steep staircase to the room, difficult with any suitcase. Owner not overly friendly (the only non-friendly person I met in Nashville), does not know anything about Nashville downtown, could not advise on anything, very unhelpful.
Owner has all their stuff in the room so it looks like a junk overflow of their own home. wardrobe for hanging clothes looks like a broom cupboard.
I gave the 2 star rating because it is quiet and in quite a pretty area location.

I am very sorry you didn't have a satisfactory stay with us and that you found us unfriendly. We are so used to guests who come to stay and don't want to really have to interact so we don't push that aspect. In addition, as I work from home, I am in my office working most of the time during the day when guests are here and we aren't trying to be unfriendly if we don't engage in long conversations, only trying to get work done.
We don't advertise or pass the guest suite off as a place to cook and eat in other than snacks and perhaps a sandwich, so the fridge and microwave, etc is more of a courtesy for guests who might want to chill soft drinks or milk or beer. By law we cannot serve food, so we try to accommodate guests who wish to buy a few light groceries but we clearly state on the website that we don't serve food.

As there are so many varied things to do downtown, we provide a lot of literature for our guests to read and get information from when choosing activities. We do recommend some places that we feel are must sees, but the downtown area is a constantly changing scene with events and activities going on and changing all the time.

While we are not downtown, we are one of the closest residential neighborhoods in proximity to the downtown area and it's less than 20 blocks to the river front.
I'm not sure what you're referring to as a wardrobe containing my clothes... There is no wardrobe in the space. There is a closet with an ironing board, iron and bath robes...

As for doing the dishes in the bathroom sink, we have the tray in the space for you to bring your dishes downstairs so that we may properly wash them and return them so you needn't wash any dishes at all. I am so sorry if I neglected to point that out to you... I would never, ever expect our guests to wash their own dishes in the bathroom sink.
You do have to realize that when you stay in someone's home, you won't necessarily not see some of their personal belongings.... It's not meant to be a clinical hotel room.

So while I'm confused as to why your expectations were not met, I do feel bad that you didn't have a good experience with us.
Again, I am so sorry your experience was less than perfect.

“Cute place, great location!”
Reviewed 25 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This was awesome place to stay in Nashville and the location was very convenient to downtown and Vanderbilt! The owners were super nice and accommodated us checking in in the wee hours of the morning after driving in from Atlanta after a concert! The space is very quiet, private, comfortable and clean. I would definitely stay here again!

We're so glad your enjoyed our city & the warmth & friendliness that abounds here. We didn't mind the wee hours check in at all and were happy you were able to take in the concert in Atlanta en route. Hope to host you again sometime!

“Nice Alternative To A Hotel”

On arrival we were shown upstairs by the owner and didn't see or hear from her again until we left - and that's how we like it so thanks for that.
Nice quiet and safe neighbourhood - we walked downtown in the evenings and got a ($7) taxi back each night.
As previously stated, the shower curtain does need replacing but as we aren't giants, we didn't find the shower too confined.
We did notice that the room door doesn't lock but as the main house door was always locked we didn't feel it to be an issue.
You have to weigh up "the cheaper but further out" versus "the more expensive hotel in more convenient downtown area"
But overall a good experience.

“Pretty great option in heart of Music Row”
Reviewed 2 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The living space is roomy and very unique. The decor, style, charm is all great. The way to get to the upstairs space is to walk into the main house foyer and 5 feet ahead is the stairwell. The space must have soundproof materials of some kind because we never heard the owners downstairs and never felt we had to tiptoe or anything. When your up there the floor is so solid you feel like your on the 1st floor foundation. There is only 1 window that overlooks the backyard and the tv is like 14 inches, but they have a lot of books and cd's to listen to and seem very willing to share. There is a microwave, mini fridge (no freezer tho), utensils, coffee maker and plates/glasses provided.

The owner introduced herself and walked us up the space and after 5 minutes we never saw them again. We never went into the backyard b/c they never said we could and we didn't want to walk through their house back there if we weren't supposed to....not a big deal, just worth clarifying if you want to rent the space. We learned you can't use grill in backyard. This is basically a B&B with only the one B for the bed. Space was big and quiet and comfortable. All in all, my wife and I are very glad we chose this space for our time in Nashville and really want to give it a 5.

There are two cons that make us rate this a 4.

1) The bathroom: the shower is cut in half due to the roof and house design (which is not the owner's fault, just a fact) and you can't fit 2 people in there and I'm a tall guy and it was very uncomfortable and awkward to use, plus the shower curtain doesn't close all the way (and had dark mildew spots on it). Yes there are nice shampoos, and lotions, but if I can't really use it well then what's the point?

2) The door to the upstairs has no security feature, it doesn't lock and there is no seal. It's an old pocket door that has no lock, no latch, no nothing. That didn't sit very well with either of us. It turned out to be totally fine, but some type of security feature would go a long ways.

Despite those 2 things, we would both still recommend this space to anyone. We enjoyed our time there.

We apologize for the oversight in not telling you the backyard is available to you. Sorry the shower is small, but old houses have charm but not always space. thanks for the heads up about the s. Curtain. We change it frequently but will pay more attention to that detail. As for the pocket door, we've not found a way to add a lock. We have a policy of never going into the space if we have a guest unless they have a problem with equipment, and we have had a guest leave and then heard running water (the toilet had overflowed) so we were able to prevent a huge amount of damage. Hotels always have a pass key and can get into your room for maid service etc. The TV is a 19" but the sitting area is small and a larger TV doesn't seem to suit the space and most people are so busy sight seeing that they rarely use is anyway. We appreciate your comments and suggestions and hope your stay was enjoyable.

“A nice place for vacation in a good community”
Reviewed 3 June 2014 for a stay in May 2014

The house is located in a good community (Edgehill), safe and quiet. The guest room is quiet, clean, and private. It has all that you could think of with a very reasonable and competitive price! It is close to Vanderbilt University and downtown area. The owner is nice and is ready to help. If you want to try something local, you may want to stay in this place instead of a hotel.
