“A property set in a lovely and peaceful location but unfortunately in need of a lot of T L C”

A spacious bungalow set in a wonderful location. Unfortunately both the exterior and interior are a bit tired and website photographs certainly do not reflect the present condition of the property. It was well enough equipped with an ample supply of cutlery crockery and glasses, the only item which I thought it lacked being a toaster ( difficult to grill breakfast and make toast in a grill simultaneously ) but at £100 per night we didn't expect that we would need to wash everything before we could use it.
On the plus side the property was warm and comfortable and, while close to amenities, was far enough away to avoid any disturbance.
Have paid considerably less for properties offering a lot more and in far better condition.

“Calm and peaceful retreat in a beautiful setting”
Reviewed 21 September 2013 for a stay in August 2013

excellent accommodation with four generously proportioned bedrooms===every convenience was provided in the property and the welcome pack of immediate essentials was very much appreciated. The facilities on site were superb for young and old but the estate is ideally situated to visit popular tourist spots should you want to venture further afield. My only negative comment would be that the outside of the property doesn't do it justice(trees and bushes need cut back and a general tidy up) Looking forward to another visit in the Spring.

“Superb Location”

This holiday day home was well worth the visit.
It had all the facilities as advertised & very clean. Home from home with all the mod cons.
Absolutely no complaints about our stay & slept very well on our three nights there. Where situated it was peaceful & quiet.

Ideal place for wanting/needing a quiet break away but also plenty to do if that is what you are after & to suit all ages. Three hotels in the village & all sell excellent food with one holding a Wednesday Quiz night !

Friend & I had a lovely visit to Inverary & the prison!!

All in all it was a fab break & looking forward to our next visit to Hightrees.

“Relaxing with amazing views”
Reviewed 16 September 2013 for a stay in September 2013

Just spent 4days at this beautiful holiday home, on arrival I couldn't believe how peaceful it was. Inside the holiday home was a warm welcoming feeling, everything there you could possibly what to make your stay perfect. The views over the loch are stunning from the holiday home, would recommend this to couples and families. My friend who has disabilities and I had some lovely walks along the loch and into the small village which is just a short distance. If going out in the evening make sure you have a torch at this time of year no street lights between village and holiday site, but felt safe walking. Local pub quiz was a good laugh, and would recommend The Shore hotel for a first class meal again views from the restaurant are stunning. Yes overall a much enjoyed stay at Hightrees and would hope to return again & again.

“In need of some TLC”
Reviewed 1 September 2013 for a stay in July 2013

I was really looking forward to our stay at this holiday retreat but was a bit disappointed when we arrived and saw the property. The outside of the building is cracking in places and was not a very welcoming sight. The outside seating area has a nice new looking bench but it is sitting on a deck that is very slippery and slimy, we never once took the opportunity to sit here as it is overshadowed by quite a bit of foliage, ferns and weeds. The house itself inside was spacious, and well equip, however the floorboards creak with every step taken, getting up in the middle of the night to get a glass of water basically woke up the whole house, very noisy! The beds were not comfortable at all, you could feel every spring and we honestly did not have a good nights sleep for the duration of our stay. On the 3rd day I went in search of the washing machine as I knew there was meant to be one somewhere, I soon found it hidden in a utility/store room under the house, after opening the door and taking a quick look inside I decided against venturing in here as I was unsure what I might come across. All in all, the accommodation was quite disappointing but the area/scenery and facilities on Drimsynie estate made the stay very enjoyable, if I was to return, which I'm sure we will I would definitely book one of the lodges on the estate.

Management Response

As the local letting agent for Hightrees I want to thank you for taking the time to contact me directly with your comments, and for now putting them on this review.

I had briefed the owners about your comments. They came up to their property to check in detail the points you raised. I have just been along to Hightrees to do my own check.

The deck area was not slippy today, but I agree that the shrubs should be trimmed. That will be done. The basement utility room is more than adequate for the job. having said that, there is also a self service laundry on the Estate so there is an alternative place to do any washing if required. Hightrees is advertised as sleeping 6+3. The description takes care to explain the extra sleeping arrangements. When the extra beds are in use these are put-u-up type beds and it is fair to say that they do not have full mattresses as on the beds - but that is usual for this type of bedding. The floor boards did creak - not sure what's going on there, I can assure you it was not like that the last time I was in the property. That will be investigated.
