The cottage is well provisioned with all modern conveniences, bright and airy but nice and cosy. The hosts Renate and Damon are very welcoming with plenty of local knowledge only to willing to help with any query’s we had. The setting for our cottage is absolutely stunning with views of the mountains and the Loch. A walk into the village will take you to Graham’s the grocers the post office and a tea shop.
A great stay would come again.
Peaceful farm setting with beautiful views over the loch. Fantastic location hiking right out your front door and very close to the village. Cottages are spotless, comfortable, cosy and very well equipped - fantastic value
Had a week in Clematis cottage at Bonawe house.
Directions received were clear. Do follow them!
Arrived and drove though the covered walkway - we managed to squeeze the car through but it might be tight for bigger vehicles. Unloaded right at the door. Car park and drive is well laid out and marked however could do with a bit more lighting for the evening as it is pitch black!
Cottage was good. It could do with a few tweaks to bring it up to 5*. Bedroom ok. Huge bed and comfortable mattress. snag is door catching on the floor and the wall connecting to the house seems damp.
Bathroom good. Shower is interesting but once you work it out it is fine. The gap under the windowsill should be sorted as no doubt it will catch water/dirt as use continues.
Living room is good. Comfortable sofa. Chair could do with some feet as it is low/saggy but a good sitting area. TV is ok and connected to our chrome cast via cottage wifi. Dining table is excellent. Plenty of room.
Kitchen is where there could be some improvements. I'd install a fitted fridge as when you open the fridge it walks back under the counter and you keep having to drag it forward. Fridge is cold but freezer is poor. Ice freezes then defrosts.
Dishwasher - pointless. We washed by hand. Need some instructions or a slimline built in model. Appreciate this suggestion may not fit with green ethos.
The fire/smoke sensor is odd. Sensitive to opening the oven door. I.e. Goes off within a second of glancing into the oven/using grill. Smoke alarm obviously has a toast setting as didn't go off at all when making breakfast! The loose bit of wood to the right of the oven is also a disconcerting. Fix it or remove it. As we cooked a fair bit these were a problem for the self catering week!
I think if the kitchen was rectified you could overlook everything and give 5*.
The grounds of the house are lovely for walks with the dog, but do beware the chickens. Do look at the website for walks. The grocer in the village really does have everything. Butcher is excellent too. Trains run on time but can be busy before 9 with school kids.
Damon and Renate are lovely and friendly but not intrusive which is ideal for us.
We spent a lovely week in Clematis Cottage, Bonawe House. We found the location very Central for visiting the surrounding area/ islands. The cottage itself was immaculate and had everything we could possibly want, we had two little dogs with us and they loved it too! Damon and Renate were very helpful both before and during our visit and we will definitely be back. Have recommended to friends and family already.
Taynuilt is served well by public transport and good local hotels. Oban, seafood capital of Scotland, is close by. Calmac Ferries run regular sailings to the Islands and a new Yacht Marina is currently being built in the harbour. The scenic views in this area are breathtaking. Places I would recommend to visit would include Ben Cruachan Hollow Mountain and Visitor Centre, a few miles outside Taynuilt. Also Ellenabeich and Easdale, crossing the famous Atlantic Bridge on the way.
