Reaching Lewis & Harris by plane our first stop was Stornoway. The town of the island.
Sunny day on the harbor with blue water and Lews castle behind
Wonderful and quiet to begin our Peter May's quest

We visited on two afternoons. On Saturday strolled the harbor and went in the shop. Later we sat on the low wall, had a snack and watched the boats. It was a very nice day. We came back on Sunday and nothing was open. We walked around a bit but there was nowhere to even get a cup of coffee that was open.

I guess it just depends on the day you visit as to how much is available to do. I am glad Sunday was not our only day to visit.

Typical harbour, ferry terminal without cafe, and not much to see while you wait for your ferry. The Lighthouse was worth a visit, takes 15 minutes drive...

Nice for a slow walk, lots of boats in when we was there so lots to see. Several cafes etc close by for refreshments.

Glad we worked our way north from Barra to Stornaway. From small to big. Relatively quiet to busy. And quaint to not so quaint. There is lots to see in the environs around Stornaway and it is the logical place to stay but there is not much to see there and it is getting a bit rundown.
