“A wonderful , comfortable base for a fantastic holiday.”
Reviewed 4 January 2012 for a stay in June 2011

We went to the Outer Hebrides for the first time and, even though it was summer, we wanted somewhere confortable, warm and welcoming. This beautiful croft met all of our needs and we were pleasantly surprised by the extensive welcome pack of home baking, whiskey and wine. We also had a free delivery of freshly cooked and very tasty crab claws, from the owner, during the week.
This place is highly recommended by us, as are the Western Isles. We are definitely thinking about going back this year, it was so good.

“The Perfect Spot”
Reviewed 5 December 2011 for a stay in September 2010

What a wonderful base for exploring the Isle of Lewis! Everything you could possible think of to turn a self catering stay into a memorable holiday is provided ... and then more! Nothing was too much trouble. September is cool but wood and peat were provided for the stove so we were never cold. The friendly welcome combined with the whisky and scones only added to the warmth. The photographs speak for themselves but the real thing is even better. It may be a converted croft but every possible mod con is provided, a kitchen that would make most cooks envious, a warm and efficient shower, really comfortable furniture, plenty of books and dvds plus outside furniture for those special sunny days. And the evening sky can be memorable too so don't forget the camera. Truly a very special find, we will definitely return.

“Beautiful house and a very warm welcome”
Reviewed 29 November 2011 for a stay in July 2011

I stayed at An Taigh Clach with a group of teenage musicians who were rehearsing for a forthcoming tour. The house is in an inspirational, beautiful setting and Valerie made us feel very welcome leaving local lamb from the croft in the freezer, as well as homemade baking and a welcome dram for the adults! I would love to go back for a family holiday!

“Fabulous welcome - everything you could possibly want is provided”
Reviewed 28 November 2011 for a stay in November 2011

A great location and a house that allows you to see what the weather is doing so you can work out which direction to head in - very important for photographers. The house is beautifully furnished with lots of thought given to the details. It was cosy despite the strong winds. Certainly no problem keeping warm in November. The lamb and scones waiting for us were also a special touch. We would love to return another year.
Some lovely bays very close by - see photo below.

“Excellent accomodation, great location and warm welcome”
Reviewed 28 November 2011 for a stay in July 2011

An Taigh Clach is a beautifully converted former croft that has been furnished to a very high standard throughout. The open-plan living/dining area is double-glazed on three sides and offers beautiful views across the fields to the mountains in the distance. The kitchen is very well equipped with high quality crockery, utensils, etc. The shower room is beautifully fitted out. The bedrooms are not large but like everything else in An Taigh Clach, are finished and fitted out to very high standard. The welcome from the owners, the MacDonalds, was a very warm one, with freshly baked scones with jam and cream, a wee dram and a freezer full of delicious lamb from the farm.
In terms of location, Carloway is within easing driving distance of all Lewis' major attractions - the Callanish stones, Dun Carloway broch, the Butt of Lewis, the beaches of Uig, etc. Stornoway is less than an hour away by car (or even by bike - 16 miles or so along the single-track, almost traffic-free Pentland Road).
Highly recommended!
