“Excellent location, lovely cottage”
Reviewed 6 March 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Fort Augustus is ideally placed for exploring the Highlands (by car). The scenery is stunning and well worth seeing and we love it in the winter months. The cottage is located next to the canal, and right in the middle of Fort Augustus, ideally placed for local pubs, restaurants, garage and shops. Lovely walks by the canal side. The cottage was lovely, spotlessly clean, well equipped and comfortable. There is no wifi which is a shame. We couldn't check the weather, look for restaurants or check routes etc. I had hoped to use my phone but the signal was too poor. The cottage has a lovely wood burner and a very very generous supply of logs. However as this controls the heating and the water it wasn't ideal. It meant that when you got up in a morning it was cold. You couldn't light it until you were in to stay. There are electric heaters ( and water heater) but they are expensive to use and not very effective. (You need pound coins for the meter.) However I would recommend this cottage and would stay again but would consider the time of year.

Thanks for the 5 star review. Very glad you enjoyed your stay.
The installation of Wi-Fi is something we are considering as a growing number of people, particularly of the younger generation, find this virtually essential - although Wi-Fi is available on the canal side and in most of the pubs and restaurants on the other side of the canal. The mobile signal is poor within the property due to this being built around 1830 with the walls being 2 feet thick. Sorry - this can't be helped but admittedly, communications would be easier if/when Wi-Fi is installed.
The wood burner is a very popular feature with most guests. It is possible to stoke this up with wood and shut down the dampers to give a very slow burning fire which should last overnight or for hours during the day. Full operating details are in the instruction folder. If the stove or immersion heater have been used for any length of time, the water should remain hot until the following morning as the tank is fully insulated but would probably only be needed for dish-washing as there is an electric shower.
The installation of a £1 electric coin meter was a deliberate decision to protect all parties but this is set at the standard SHE rate and we make no money from it but you may notice that our rental price for the cottage is relatively modest in comparison to other properties on the canal side who supply electricity at no additional cost.
We do hope that these small points won't deter you from a return visit and look forward to seeing you again in the future

“great cottage and great location”
Reviewed 14 August 2016 for a stay in July 2016

Our family came to stay here on the 30th july for 1 week .The cottage is immaculate and right in the heart of Fort Augustus..The canal was outside the front door ,shops ,restaurants ,bars were close by. We cuised Loch Ness ,walked part of the great glen way ,high wire adventure on the Nevis Range and best fun of all scottish dancing in the local village hall on wednesday nights. The only fault was we didnt book 2 weeks instead of the 1 week. . Our family totally enjoyed our stay at this cottage

“Fantastic cottage - lovely surroundings”
Reviewed 3 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Kintore Cottage has everything needed to make your stay in Scotland as relaxing as possible following a busy day exploring. Comfortable and welcoming with lovely views of Loch Ness and up and down the canal locks at Fort Augustus.

“Home from home exquisite cottage.”
Reviewed 18 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

Excellent spotless well looked after cottage. You will find everything you need for a perfect holiday supplied here in Kintore Cottage. A very comfortable feeling as soon as you enter , you will find cottage spotless and very well maintained. Plenty of space in the rooms and a kitchen to die for,IF you need there is a great big wood burner ,shower room. As I myself am disabled and find walking difficult it was wonderful to find there was only a two inch lip at door ,so the entry was so easy if you have walking difficulties. Lots of out door space grass area and chips at parking space,or sit at front of cottage watch the world go by and see the boats go up through the loch gates. The Village garage has a shop which caters for all your needs excellent choice in food stuffs. Can't recommend this wonderful comfortable cottage enough.
