Nice hostel for staying and resting!

Review of Morag's Lodge
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 22 Apr 2017
I stayed in Morag's Lodge for two nights with my friend. We both had a great time there. I love the peaceful and cosy atmosphere there, especially after a long day tour outside. It was enjoyable experience, no matter dancing on the table in the bar or curling up on sofa chatting with friends. The Intrenet is not very steady. I couldn't connet to wifi unless staying in the lounge. The food there is okay. I didn't expect to have Chinese food there. Well, It will be better if I can have saussage for breakfast. Lol. Fort Augustus is a nice place to walk around. I missed the fisf&chip store there. Aw, also a bar called Bothy? Haha

Thanks for your review! We are glad to hear you enjoyed both the lively bar and comfy sofas in the sun-lounge! Our Wifi is currenty only available in the public rooms and some bedrooms but our plan is to extend coverage around the hostel - quite a challenge in an old building with thick walls! We offer locally sourced meals but as you say there are other options just a short walk away. We hope you had a great onward trip :0)

We stayed here on an overnight Highlands tour. The rooms were clean and bathroom satisfactory (though no wifi in some bedrooms). We did have an issue with the bar staff, who we found sexist and disappointingly close-minded throughout the pub quiz. During a pickup line game a couple of my friends were made to switch out so two girls/two guys couldn't "flirt" with one another, and instead made my friend uncomfortable by making her deliver her line to a man working there. Catch up with the 21st century, Morags!

Thank-you for your review. We are extremely disappointed to read that you have misunderstood the pub quiz round and that this resulted in your friend being uncomfortable. The aim is to switch people around in the pub quiz so that they are not with their friends as this helps break the ice. Whether they are switched with a male or female is irrelevant and every night we have a pub quiz there are different combinations of males and females. We are very sorry that you took offence to the fact that on this particular night males were paired with females. We are an open and diverse team that actively promotes acceptance and inclusion - which is one reason that our pub quiz nights are known as legendary! We currently only offer Wifi in the public rooms and some bedrooms but the plan is to fully extend coverage around the hostel - a bit of a challenge in an old building with thick walls!

Room was great; bed equipped with useful stuff and good ensuite.
Excellent bar and entertainment. But annoyed by tour staff/buddies hogging the bar space and chatting endlessly to bar staff at the expense of attending to guests.
Breakfast was ok. Evening meal was basic. Pack lunch was ok.

Thank-you for your review. We are happy to hear you found our rooms, bar & entertainment excellent, but are very disappointed to hear that we failed to deliver the level of service that all of our guests deserve. On the night you stayed we were hosting groups with trainee tour guides who our staff were excited to meet and vice versa, this does not excuse the fact that our bar team could have managed access to the bar better. Thank-you for bringing this to our attention, we will be using this feedback to improve how we deliver Highland Hospitality at its best and for further staff training sessions. Thanks again and we hope you had agreat onward journey from here!

Rooms were clean and conveinient. Check In was ok. We could check in earlier, just the warm water was not working till check in time. , Breakfast was really yummy.everything was great. The only thing I did not like was the loud music at night.
Excellent Location directly along Great Glen Way. I especially liked the opportunity to charge your phone on every bed in the dormrooms- thats mosly an issue in hostels ;-)

Thank-you for your review - we are perfectly located right on the Great Glen Way so perfect for walkers. We have our heating & hot water on a timer so we are not wasting energy when we do not have guests in-house, one of our many commitments to sustainability #livegreen #sustainabletraveltips We are sorry that you did not enjoy the music from the bar, every night is different with us depending on who we are hosting, some nights are chilled, some more lively. Glad you made use of our powerpoints - they are a huge plus of staying here in the digital age ;0)

I stayed 2 nights at Morag's. The accomodation was suggested by the Haggis Adventure tour. I could have booked somewhere else, but decided to go with the flow. Personally, I hate hostels because of the shared rooms/toilets. If you get loud roommates, you are doomed. And the toilets are always a pickle regarding timing (there weren't any private rooms available at the time). Regarding the hostel, it is well kept and clean. They offer dinner and breakfast or self-catering kitchen and there is a bar where they hold their nightly entertainment. Fortunately, the entertainment doesn't end late, otherwise, because of the room I was assigned, I could have not been able to sleep. The staff is very polite and accomodating and are amazing cooks!

Room tip: If you want to go to sleep early, ask for the rooms further away from the bar.

Ha-ha yes..."Morag" is Nessie's cousin! We are happy to hear that despite a hostel not being your ideal choice that you found us to be clean, friendly, and that you enjoyed our homecooked food. Our private rooms are popular so late bookers tend to have the dorm option only. We hope you enjoyed the rest of your trip with Haggis Adventures!

I have stayed in Morag's Lodge for 2 nights as part of the Haggis Adventures tour and enjoyed my stay very much. Morag's Lodge is a rather large building with it's own free-to-use kitchen, seating areas and a cosy bar.

The staff are very helpful and extremely friendly. They immediately make you feel at home. Once their shift is over you may spot them in the bar downstairs, they are great fun!

The rooms are basic but have everything you need. Every bed has it's own outlet and a little reading-lamp. The bathrooms are ensuite, and have a toilet, sink and a really nice shower. There was also another separate bathroom in the hallway which you could use if yours was occupied.

Breakfast and dinner were both good. I highly suggest getting dinner there, they have multiple meals available every night, both Scottish and more traditional meals (get the chicken with haggis, absolutely delicious!). The breakfast is buffet style, you can have coffee/tea, juices, toasts and porridge.

There is a small bar located on the ground floor of the building. Good variety of drinks and reasonable prices. Great atmosphere as well! After the quiz on the first night we had a (little) party. The night ended with people dancing on tables and lots of fun!

The Lodge is located at the banks of Loch Ness, in the small town of Fort Augustus. The town centre is only a short walk away. In the town you can find a small supermarket and some restaurants/pubs. Loch Ness is even visible from certain rooms, so great place for trying to spot Nessie!

I very much enjoyed my stay in Morag's Lodge, due to the friendly staff and cosy atmosphere. Would highly recommend staying here!
