Welcoming and friendly staff were the key positives of this hotel. We felt the hotel is perhaps under resourced by the owners financially, this being reflected by the entire place feeling ‘tired’. Employing top notch maintenance/housekeeping with good standards would improve this. Carpets in need of replacement/cleaning, windows cleaned, window ledges around restaurant polished, pool area spruced up. Although the women’s changing area has been revamped and looks good. So much potential just requires more focused management strategy. Breakfast staff friendly but order was incorrect on 2 occasions, breakfast very average in comparison to other places we’ve stayed in Scotland/England.

a lovely hotel in a lovely location. Food and staff were wonderful and the addition of a spa and a pool made this a truely wonderful trip. we very much enjoyed our massage and a swim each morning. we will be sure to recommend to any friends traveling to Scotland.

I was disappointed with my stay. The staff are charming and the hotel is very dog friendly, which is not always the case even when a place is advertised as dog friendly. The food was pleasant, but not knock out. So those are the good points. The disappointment came when comparing the price for what we got. The hotel (and spa) are very tired looking and set in a small, steep, not particularly well tended garden, more two star pub than five star luxury. When we got to our room we had light bulbs not working, the kettle lid was broken and there was no TV remote control. A remote control was then brought to our room, but it didn’t work. The furniture is largely dark wood, which could be regarded as traditional, but it was covered with stains, chips and marks. The following morning they forgot to bring us our breakfast and so we were delayed by half an hour. All up not impressive for the money

Room tip: Go for the cheapest room and don’t get your hopes up, then you won’t be disappointed

The restaurant has ruined our stay.
For our starters we got the salmon and the venison. Salmon was five tiny cubes and the venison was very bland; both were over £12 each. My partner then ordered the 'deconstructed' cannelloni for her main, which was nothing more than a plate of vegetables that tasted so bad she couldn't finish, that was £29. For myself I ordered the chowder which was o.k, but definitely not worth the £37 it cost us.
It's a shame that the food was charged to our room because it wasn't worth paying for.
The hotel is great and we are very happy with our room, but the experience at the restaurant was so bad that I won't be coming here again.

Thank you for taking the time to review Knock Castle Hotel and Spa.

We are sorry that you felt that your overall stay was worthy of such a low review, especially as you said that the hotel was great.

We did provide check backs throughout each course when you dined with us, and no negative comments were made at all, with little food being left on the plates at the end of each course. It was only later in the evening after you had left the restaurant that you made any comments about it, at which point we are unable to then deal with any issues if there were any. Had you made us aware of any concerns during your meal we would have happily looked after you.

Had a thoroughly enjoyable stay here. Staff were very welcoming, nothing too much trouble. Evening meal was delicious, highly recommend the goats cheese and orange salad and the haddock risotto. Breakfast was tasty and freshly cooked. Loved sitting in the rooftop terrace taking in the spectacular views. Even managed a dip in the pool and to chill in the hot tub. Stayed in the Gleneagles room, huge ,comfy bed, charming window seat and lovely views.Cannot praise the staff enough, all very friendly and professional. We'll be back.
