Stayed here when visiting the area for a friends wedding.

A very warm and welcoming hotel. Our room was a little on the small side, as was the shower room. The bed was slightly uncomfortable but it didn't prevent us from sleeping well. The shared rooms and infrastructure of the hotel are very good, its a shame that the crazy golf is closed, it could be a wonderful addition to the hotel. The pool looked very good but we didn't get to use it.

The breakfast and room are very good indeed as are all the staff and owner. Plenty of car parking spaces.

To get into Lyme Regis it would be best to get a taxi as parking there is very limited and the bus service more expensive than a cab.

Fernhill Hotel was one of those rare events, a hotel that did not live up to the expectations given by Tripadvisor reviews. Easiest is to split the visit into pros and cons:-

Cons:
The initial view of the hotel is disappointing, at some stage the property looks to have been rendered on all outside walls and painted a light grey, the effect is stark and unwelcoming.

There appears to be no lift to the upper floors, at least not to the section we stayed in.

The room was a superior room overlooking the pool, but had a rather dated feel about it, and with chipped dilapidated furniture. The TV was tiny. The double bed was small. The bathroom was small with a tiny bath you had to climb into if you wanted a shower, never a great experience.

We decided to try the bath and the bubble / spa jets, which was a mistake since a strong smell of stagnant water erupted. You would have to think the jets had not been used for some time (including through the recent heatwave) and mindful of the recently publicised risks of Legionnaires disease, we decided to abandon the experiment with the bath.

The dining room appeared to have zero atmosphere in the evening (three couples talking in whispers) so we skipped dinner and headed for a pub in Lyme Regis.

Breakfast was just ok without being exceptional, though the kipper on the bone was very good. The breakfast room was very stuffy.

We paid £170 per night for two nights accommodation and it simply was not worth it, maybe at £90 a night it might have been ok.

Pros:
Reception staff were friendly.

Good bedding and soft bed.

Good kipper at breakfast.

This Hotel had all ingredients we were looking for: right size infrastructure with nice taste in classic decoration, it makes you feel comfortable and pampered. The staff is fantastic. The location is about 2 miles from Lyne Regis center, you can leave your car perfectly well parked at hotel and take a bus right in front (careful with the fares and be clear with the driver on what you need as ticket), you can walk or even just call a taxi from the place. Even when raining, you can make the most looking for fossils at the beach, get a proper rain jacket and shoes to walk over the stones, then get a nice pasty at a local shop, and close the day with a quite evening at hotel. The bar is really nice, you can enjoy your drink at the library which is a different room. The dinner is delicious and they have great variety. The rooms are classy and cleaned to perfection. The bathtub has airbath which is a nice attribute to relax. The swimming pool looks really good and include one for little kids. Unfortunately we could not use the pool due to the weather. Outside there is a little golf course which I am sure can be use during Summer. Breakfast is from 8 till 9:30AM and they take food care of you, fantastic poached eggs and traditional British breakfast. If looking for a town restaurant and fish, get to the HIX Oyster and Fish House but ensure that you make a booking ahead. It is at the top of the hill and the views are really nice. Connie’s Fossil shop is the most complete and she is really passionate about the subject, don’t miss it.

The hotel itself was beautiful, The staff were really friendly, helpful and always cheerful. The breakfast was probably one of the best ones we have had in a very long time. Check in and out was less then % minutes, super speedy and helpful. Location-wise, fantastic, only a few minutes to Lyme Regis town and Charmouth beach, where we collected numerous fossils and had fantastic lunches and dinner too.
All in all a great stay, would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Pool side view room was amazing!

My husband and I wanted to book some accommodation near our son and his partner who had booked a week's holiday near Charmouth. Having stayed in Charmouth twice when I was very young I was eager to return. We were not disappointed - the village has hardly changed at all. However, the best part of the holiday was the fantastic finding of this lovely hotel. We received such a friendly service and everything was just delightful. We only stayed on B & B terms but the lovely breakfast set us up for the day. We enjoyed our visit so much that we have already booked again for next year.
