“Relax and enjoy the view after a long day out”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed at Bracken Cottage Riscombe Farm for 10 nights in July 2014. Our hosts were Brian and Leo and the lovely Bracken (dog), welcoming and friendly. Brian suggested places we might like to see during our stay, we did take his advise and where very thankful, we went to Exmoor National Park and were lucky to see the ponies with their young, Tarr Steps, Porlock, Bossington, Martin Combe and surrounding area, Quantock Hills, West Somerset Steam Railways plus more. This was an upside down style cottage. The bedroom was comfortable, the bathroom was large with bath, toilet and wash basin, the shower was next to the bathroom, there was another bedroom with 3 single beds. Upstairs the kitchen was adequate for preparing meals after a long day out, large combined dining room and sitting room, satellite TV, Wi Fi, comfortable lounge suite and heating if required. I enjoyed sitting in the dining room looking out of the window in the morning, watching the swallows and other birds, the sheep and lambs in the field over the river, very relaxing. There is a laundry with a pay and use washing machine and dryer, clothes can also be dried on hangers in this warm laundry. We enjoyed our walk around the property and through the woodland. The farm had free roaming chickens and ducks (fresh eggs for sale), sheep and lambs, 2 gorgeous long haired goats which I enjoyed feeding, 2 ponies.
We would recommend Riscombe farm to all that enjoy relaxing and nature plus exploring this beautiful part of England.

“A Classic British Getaway”

If you are looking for a tranquil escape from the bustle of life then Riscombe Farm is just the ticket. Situated a mile or two outside centrally located Exford which boasts a couple of good pubs that serve good value, unpretentious, locally sourced traditional food. There are plenty of outdoor activities within 30-40 minute drive and good for walkers, cyclists and horse riders. The Cottages are clean, dry and very cosy. They have basic Sky TV, free Wi-Fi broadband access and loads of hot water. It is so peaceful there with spectacular night skies, weather permitting!

Brian & Leone are very kind and amiable and will do their best to make you and your pets/horse feel welcome and comfortable.
If you are very lucky Brian may take you on a tour of his new pride and joy the ‘Green’ wood pellet heating and water system that has just been installed! We were there last year and this new system has made everything much more toasty and warm. On both of our visits we found that everything was clean and tidy and everything worked as expected.

If you like the Exmoor vibe or want to just get away then this is a great place but if you have a need to be entertained or access to shops 24/7 then look elsewhere!

You should try Tarr Steps, a few miles away. It is a great walk in an area of 'Special Scientific Interest' that is quite delightful. The local pub, the Tarr Farm Inn, does the most extravagant cream tea and the food is better than you get in many of the top London restaurants.

There are local village shops in Exford for the basics and the nearest mini-supermarket/petrol station is about 20 mins away by car at Wheddon Cross.

Please note: Don’t expect your mobile (we have O2 and Orange) to work on Exmoor as in general it won’t!
