Stayed in the Oak Barn for the weekend. Couldn't have been more thrilled with everything about it. The bathrooms, the sauna the beds and bedding were total luxury. The barn was so warm is was easy to forget we had sub zero temperatures outside. Upstairs was just fab. The kitchen was really well equiped, it was much more than a home from home in fact i didnt want to leave and neither the children. All in all a fantastic weekend. Thanks Richard and Lesley for making our weekend so special.

“The Oak Barn in Widecombe: a fabulous luxury cottage set in beautiful scenery”

The perfect holiday starts with discovering the amazing views along the road leading to Oak Barn, which fits the description of luxury accomodation in every possible way.
The cottage is stunning and beautifully designed, with a sense of quality and refinement, as well as 5 star facilities. Designer bathrooms complete with heated towel rails, a beautifully equiped kitchen, outstanding quality furniture, bedding and linen, and every little detail one could possibly expect from an exclusive cottage.
Lesley and Richard provide a most friendly and helpful welcome.
Widecombe in the Moor could be a village out of a Beatrix Potter book, providing a relaxing and peaceful atmosphere. Dartmoor National park offers a wide variety of beautiful walks and breathtaking views.
Staying at the Oak Barn in Widecombe, the only wish one could have is to stay longer or return soon.

“Fabulous gay friendly cottage escape”

We stayed for a week and wished it had been longer! The cottage is right in the middle of dartmoor with great views. It's also a five minutes walk from a gorgeous and welcoming country pub with great beer and great food and a 45 minute drive to the coast.

The cottage itself is really cosy and high spec - with little extras like a dishwasher, a tumble dryer, a double ended bath and wifi that you wouldn't necessarily expect. It also has a nice lawn and a BBQ outside.

The owners do live next door but they are so friendly and sociable that you won't mind. They greeted us with a bottle of cider and had left home baked bread and a bottle of wine in the cottage for us when we arrived. They are as sociable as you want them to be - they leave you be and you wouldn't know they were there but they are also around at the weekend with offers of BBQ and a trip to the pub if you feel like it!

As a gay couple they made us feel like it didn't make a single bit of difference and I would definitely recommend it as a romanitc escape for gay and straight couples alike.

As a holiday cottage I don't think i've stayed in anywhere nicer!

“A fantastic weekend in a beautiful place"”
Reviewed 2 March 2010 for a stay in January 2010

Absolutely loved our stay here. It's a great spot for getting out walking on Dartmoor and on one of the wetter days we found the coast wasn't too far away either. Found our hosts helpful when necessary but respectiful of privacy too. Really felt like a home from home as soon as we'd settled in. Should also mention that having the Rugglestone Pub just a couple of minutes walk down the lane was a huge bonus. Will definitely return.

“Disappointed”

Found the welcome not very friendly. No information on how appliances work and when we asked the owner for the second time on how the cooker worked we were made to feel a complete nuisance. For a 5 star there was no information on nearest shops doctors dentist etc. Also only 5 logs given to burn on arrival any extra were charged at £3.50 a bag.All in all over priced for the time of year and for the ammenities. On a plus it was warm and the bath deep and luxurious. Having stayed in other 5 star self catering accomodation we found this one lacking.
