“Another wonderful holiday”
Reviewed 23 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

We have just returned from another wonderful holiday at the Garden Apartment, Folly Rise. The location has beautiful views of Bigbury Bay and easy access to the beach with lovely local walks nearby. Gill is a welcoming, caring host; nothing is too much trouble. Thank you again Gill for your many kindnesses and help. We look forward to coming back next year!

We had a lovely week in the Garden Apartment and Gill was a wonderful host going out of her way to provide advice and assistance including catering for our complex needs with regard to food allergies. The apartment is spacious and really close to the beach, literally a few minutes walk (even at two-yr old walking pace) yet the elevation up the steps allows for great views over the bay when enjoying a drink on the terrace in the evening. Gill has recorded some helpful videos posted on the property website so you can see the exact layout before you arrive. The facilities were all spotless and well-maintained.

The local area is beautiful. The beach is gently sloping which seems to help keep the water relatively warm and give plenty of space to play at low tide. Our boys (2.5 & 4.5) loved the ability to walk over to Burgh Island at low tide or get the sea-tractor at high. The Beach View Cafe is a very handy place to walk for a nice meal nearby. Booking is recommended. Other dining locations are a bit of a drive away.

The weather was very nice while we were there. We built up plenty of beach hours and on the few mornings it was cloudy or inclement we took the opportunity to visit some of the other local attractions. There is a good selection of zoos, aquariums and similar within an hour or so drive to entertain children. We particularly liked Paignton zoo.

We hope to return in years to come.

We are so pleased this delightful family enjoyed the simple pleasures a typical family beach holiday offers. There are certainly so many attractions locally for Visitors to visit, many of our guests return year after year, finding something different each time. We look forward to welcoming Cat, Chris and family in the future. We agree we are indeed blessed with the "Bay View Café and Bistro" just a 5 minutes walk away!

We had a fantastic time in Bigbury on Sea staying at the Garden Apartment. Gill was a wonderful host and was extremely helpful, offering good advice about the local area. The apartment was very clean, spacious and much closer to the beach than we expected, just a short walk down a "secret passage."

The beach was perfect for our 3 kids age 3, 5 and very close to 7! (He is watching me write this)

Thank you Gill for making our holiday so memorable.

It was a pleasure to welcome this super family with their 3 delightful children. It was a source of joy to see them off to the beach each day, with all the necessary paraphernalia, returning home to a BBQ on the terrace, ably cooked by their Father! Each morning they had their breakfast, always a healthy option both parents being in the medical profession, al fresco over looking the sea and coastline beyond. We hope to seem them again.

“Excellent Apartment with Stunning Views”

We have just spent a wonderful week at the Garden Apartment in Bigbury-on-Sea and would recommend it to everybody looking for a great base in Devon.

We were visiting for a family wedding and Gill was a fantastic owner, helpful, patient and very accommodating with all the comings and goings of family and friends during the week. Nothing was too much trouble and everybody welcomed.

We arrived after a long drive from essex to a fantastic homemade cream tea and bottle of wine to enjoy in the beautiful garden with a spectacular view of the sea. We found the apartment well equipped for all our needs including wifi and a full gas bottle for the barbeque which was put to good use.

The apartment is within easy walking distance of the beach, Bay View café and Burgh Island. Salcombe, Totnes, Plymouth and Modbury are all short drives away. We found that the convenient location makes the apartment a great place for exploring Devon and then returning to relax in the garden with wonderful sea views.

We had the pleasure of welcoming the Bride's Sister & Brother-in-Law and and also prior to the Wedding ceremony, the future Bride and Bridegroom. We were delighted to join in the excitement surrounding the wedding and to hear all the news of the Hog Roast held at the nearby farm where the friends of the Bride & Groom enjoyed a fabulous week-end camping and joining in the celebrations of the happy couple, their family and friends. A good time was had by all and will no doubt bring back many happy memories in the years to come. We wish them every happiness. Gill.

“Lovely stay in Bigbury on sea”

Thank you Gill for letting us stay in your lovely appartment. We had a great time with our almost 5 year old grandson. He had a ball, we went on the beach every day, our grandson sporting a wetsuit that Gill kindly let him use. There is so much to do In the area, we could have stayed another week and not been bored. We loved the accommodation and the gardens. We barbecued twice and had a fish and chip supper from the local chippy van which was freshly cooked and beautiful.
We ordered a food delivery from Tesco which Gill put away for us. We thoroughly enjoyed our cream tea on arrival, thanks!
We were a little cold at the end of the day and Gill was only to happy to put the central heating on which warmed us up nicely.

It was a lovely surprise to have Jane, Husband, Daughter and super Grandson Leo return after 4 years, especially as they say they never go back to the same place twice! It was a joy to see Leo dashing off down our 'secret' path to the beach in his wet suit, complete with bucket, spade and pink fishing net. I did apologise for the colour, but he said he didn't mind! He's lucky to have such ffantastic Grandparents! It was nice that Jane's sister and family were staying at the Henley Hotel just up the road and were able to join them for a BBQ on the Apartment Terrace. Dare we hope they might come for a 3rd time - let's hope so!! Gill.
