To some extent this is a lovely place. I had a great view over the harbour. My room was twin bedded and I paid quite a substantial single room. supplement. There was just one lift and then there were three steps down to the room. The bathroom consisted of a toilet, a sink and a shower. The shower head was not detachable. There was no bath mat and there were no grab rails. For my purposes it was therefore unusable. There was no wifi but there was a TV, albeit on the small side. There was tea/coffee making facilities. Most nights I could hear people on the benches outside the bar until quite late but otherwise it wa reasonable quiet. The food was generally pretty good altough choices were limited. One night though they served gammon and pineapple. The gammon was over-cooked and in some cases totally burnt. The mashed potatoe it was served on was merely warm rather than hot. The staff were generally very amenable but service was sometimes rather slow. The location is perfect. I just wish the facilities had been better.
Spent a night in the Pier Head and it did not disappoint. Wonderful welcome and service extended, with a special mention to Hazel. Food was of good quality and the view from main restaurant unsurpassed.
Highly recommended for all types of stays.
Pros
Nice hotel in a good location overlooking a harbour and beach.
Very friendly helpful staff in hotel and bar/restaurant
Rooms were fine and really super clean. Everything was gleaming one of the cleanest we've visited in a long time.
The hotel had good COVID precautions in place.
Food in restaurant was of a good standard not a very exciting menu but very tasty. We had great fish and chips and a lovely pizza .
Nice pool in the leisure centre.
Cons
Great difficulty in booking I emailed ,left it a day or so but no reply, tried to ring several times no reply, when I did get through the lady was busy on another call and said she'd ring back but 3 hours later she still hadn't. Got through 2nd time and was put on hold while receptionist dealt with another customer.
Leisure centre pool doesn't open until 9.00 am and the latest time they could take us for breakfast was 9.00. We always like to have a swim before breakfast and in all the other hotels we stayed in on our staycation the pools opened at 8.00 am or earlier
No wifi in the upstairs bedrooms which is really unacceptable in this day and age.
Rooms are not soundproof can hear next door's guests talking and moving around Fortunately our neighbours were not noisy and didn't stay up late.
Good location.
Rooms clean and basic. leisure centre.
Dinner menu is very good and varied.
Staff helpful.
Breakfast well organised - just don't forget to book the night before
This hotel has a great location and does a great breakfast unfortunately the hotel needs some decorating the rooms are clean but quite small some have lovely harbour views but very little room to sit and enjoy them.
The hotel lounge desperately needs refurbishing.
Small room with Victorian plumbing far too noisy swimming pool was like an ice bath and the gents showers didn’t work the breakfast was very limited and what was on offer was disgusting WiFi is crap bar food was excellent restaurant was closed so can’t comment bed was comfy but couldn’t sleep due to noise of plumbing wouldn’t go back even at gun point stayed at clairegalway last year wish we had drunken the extra hour there instead
