I had the pleasure of staying with my family in Morette house in May .
Morette House is truly a very magical place to stay , situated in beautiful countryside, farm animals like ducks , geese , hens etc wandering around plus “ socks “ sheep dog only add to a wonderful farm experience.
The House itself is “stunning” + there is great attention to detail , it really is like home from home with your every need catered for , fabulous showers, lovely open fire , stove in kitchen also + all facilities you could possibly need .
Justin the homeowner is a pure gentleman + was so welcoming , + told us everything we needed to know to ensure our stay was most enjoyable.
We thoroughly enjoyed beautiful nature walks in the nearby Emo house + gardens also .
I would highly recommend Morette house + I look forward to returning there in the future.

It's very difficult to describe just how awesome Justin's place is. We (me, my wife, my 2 year old and 6 month old) were coming back from the US to visit family and needed a place to quarantine before getting COVID tests. Beginning two weeks before we got there, Justin was so helpful. He called me to keep me apprised of the updated government guidance on restrictions for entering the country, it was a really thoughtful. We arrived early in the morning and had lost the directions, and Justin responded to us at 7am, which was greatly appreciated. Then throughout the trip, he was quick to respond to any questions we had. The house itself is on a working farm (although it is not noisy at all) and my 2 year old loved seeing all the animals. Also, and this might seem a bit unusual, there are rabbits everywhere. At any time of the day when you look out the window, there are a bunch of rabbits hopping about. Again, my son thought this was amazing. Easy drive into Port Laois to get supplies, although we could have skipped buying eggs as Justin's dad dropped us over fresh eggs from the farm. It is only a few minutes from the magnificent Emo Court House and gardens, which is well worth a visit. The house is exceptionally clean and comfortable with loads of awesome details (like the well in the kitchen!). And coming from New York, it was incredibly peaceful. We loved our stay here and will definitely be back.
Morette House is beautifully rustic, spacious and charming. Although it is in the countryside it’s a short drive to pubs, restaurants and shops.
Our host, Justin Treacy, could not have been more helpful and was always there when we had a query.
The house is perfect for a family or group of friends. It’s a real home from home, with the kitchen packed with all the basics.
The photos will show the house off but in essence it’s a large detached farmhouse. There is a private drive to it and a large garden to the rear. The kitchen is large with a table with seating for 8 plus and an island with bar stool seating. It has a convention hob, oven, microwave, fridge freezer and dishwasher etc and everything you’d expect in a well equipped kitchen.
There is a utility room with a washing machine as well as a downstairs toilet and shower room.
There are 2 large living rooms both with TV’s. The one room is set up with plenty of toys and games for young children. There are also plenty of books for those that want to totally relax in the peace and quiet of the place.
Upstairs has 3 large bedrooms, one of which is ensuite. There is a large family bathroom with an incredible shower. All 3 bedrooms have a double bed with one also having a single bed in the room.
We arrived at Dublin by ferry. Morette House is approx 1 hour 10 minutes by car. It is just off the M7, and between the towns of Kildare and Portaoise. You also have designer shopping at Newbridge which is not far.
Portlaoise has a train station that is well connected as is the M7, so it would be quite easy to tour Ireland from here.
The nearest bar and restaurant is Treacys which is approx a 2 minute drive. The Guinness is superb and the meals are delicious and hearty. They also serve breakfasts which were popular with the locals.
For day trips to Dublin, you can catch the train from Portaoise but the easiest way is to drive on the M7 to the outskirts (Red Cow) then park and get the tram in which you can hope on and off all day.
Emo House is only a few minutes drive away and the grounds are beautiful to walk around.
We had an amazing family holiday here and would highly recommend it. Various ways to book. The owner can be reached on icloud com.
