If you need to get back to nature, you will enjoy Pinckney Island Refuge. When we came in April, the road was only open up to the parking lot. From here there are hiking and biking trails. It is easy to spend a few hours here.

Had to laugh at the negative reviews. WE don't WANT dogs in a wildlife refuge.....they disturb the wildlife and peace which we are coming to experience. Nothing there but beauty and serenity.

We thought the “plastic” snake on the information kiosk in the parking lot was unnecessary and a little too realistic as we stood very closely studying the map of the refuge. Then, the snake moved! Yikes!! The harmless garter snake moved off into the grass and we started off down the trail. We saw hundreds if not thousands of birds, all kinds, and spotted several alligators in the edges of the waters. The grand finale to our walk was yet another snake, although this time it looked to be a copperhead. It was casually resting(?) in the middle of the gravel road and not inclined to mess with us (nor were we inclined to bother him!). All in all, an adventurous walk for us and a wonderful way to spend a few hours in Hilton Head!

Great area to walk and enjoy the bird wildlife. It is quiet and clean , with many birds to view. This was my second trip and I enjoyed photographing the scenery.
