In the four years we have lived in S.C. we have eaten at Saffron's more than a dozen times. It is our favorite place to take friends ... or bring take-out back to the house .... to introduce people to Indian food. If you have never eaten Indian, the menu can be intimidating.
We have not invited anyone to Saffron's, who did not be come a complete convert to this tasty cuisine. The lunch buffet - offered 7 days a week - is a wonderful and inexpensive way to sample many of their dishes.
If you can't make it to the buffet, a few suggestions if you have never eaten Indian ... first, ask for all of the dishes to have a "mild" spice level until you are more familiar with the food.
A few "safe" appetizers are the Onion Bhatia and the Chana Papari Chat.
If you want to try a few of the meat dishes, the Tandoori Assorted Appetizer gives you two different chicken dishes and a ground lamb.
Our favorites are the vegetarian entrees:
* Vegetable Korma is delicious
* Saag Panir is a creamed spinach with cubes of cheese
* Eggplant Bhartha is wonderful
* Bhindi Masala is popular with people who love okra and tomatoes
* Dal is a classic stew with lentils
* All entrees come with a generous portion of basmati rice
Do not skip the breads! All by themselves - the plain naan and the garlic naan are to worth your trip to Saffron's!
For us, we have found this cuisine to be the ultimate "comfort food"!!
