Newly remodeled with a very welcoming and helpful staff. The little bistro is also tasty with a nice selection of small meals, beer and wine. Reasonable (albeit not super close) walking distance into the historic district and down to the boardwalks. Close to several historical buildings. Excellent coffee/pastries at Kudu, easy walking distance kitty-corner across the big park. Had terrific freshly made pizza one night at MOD, half a block down the street. On-site parking a big plus. Nice pool. Wonderful concierge.

I felt the cost to stay here was pretty high for a basic room, the room appeared to not be fully renovated yet. I liked that we had a corner room close to the stairs and not facing the busy street. The bed was very comfortable. The hotel is in a great location to get to the shops and restaurants in downtown Charleston.

A typical Courtyard - clean and comfortable rooms. Wireless and other amenities were good. Front desk staff where friendly and helpful. only a few blocks to main historic district. A very good value. Parking was $20 per night.

We stayed here five nights in April 2018 for our first visit to Charleston. We used Marriott points for our stay, and I believe this is the best Marriott location for quick access to the historic district and the sights a tourist will want to see. It was a quick 10 minute walk to the Charleston Market and where the carriage rides are. There are numerous restaurants surrounding the hotel and there’s a Walgreens 2 blocks away for bottled water, snacks, wine, etc.. We felt very safe walking everywhere from the hotel and felt it was a great location for visiting Charleston as a tourist.

We decided not to rent a car for the whole trip since parking is very limited within Charleston’s tourist areas, the streets are quite congested with cars, horse drawn carriage rides, and tourists. Additionally, parking at the hotel isn’t cheap. We used Uber to get to and from the airport (approximately $35 each way before tip) and used Uber a few times during our stay when our feet were sore. We did rent a car for 24 hours from a nearby Avis (10 min walk) to visit Folly Beach and Magnolia Plantation. We were happy with our decision to not have a car for the majority of the trip and I’d recommend that for most visitors.

The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The woman who checked us in (long braided blonde hair - sorry I don’t have her name) was extremely welcoming and went above and beyond to show us things on a map and recommend several restaurants and things to see. The concierge also was wonderful. She was quick and efficient and made restaurant reservations for us at a few fabulous restaurants we loved, Fort Sumter, a carriage ride and guided us to the choice of a plantation and beach we might most enjoy. She is definitely an asset to the hotel and did a great job helping us with some of the logistics of seeing what we wanted to see. In general, all staff was very friendly and welcoming.

We did get coffee and breakfast sandwiches from the lobby Bistro each morning. They’re tasty, but overpriced, as all hotel food is. We could have walked a block down the street and gotten Panera breakfast sandwiches for half the cost, but we were lazy and enjoyed the convenience of not having to leave the hotel.

Here’s the only part of the hotel I did not like. First, the room was not well soundproofed. The sound of people walking down the hall and the sound coming from under the connecting door to the neighboring room was very, very loud. We could hear a man in the room next door coughing and spitting in the morning when we were getting ready. It was so distracting that we put towels under the crack of the entry door and the connecting door to the next door room to try to muffle the sound. Fortunately, we use ear plugs at night so we were able to sleep ok, but had our neighbor been with a loud voiced or rowdy group it would have really bothered us. I imagine the noise is somewhat attributable to the laminate floors the hotel has. They probably do nothing to absorb sound. There’s also a fairly significant gap between the bottom of the door and the floor that lets a lot of noise through. I’d recommend the hotel find a solution to that as it would prevent me from staying here again. Secondly, the bed was not very supportive. Both of us had sore backs, hips, and neck from sleeping on the mattress for five nights. That would also make me disinclined to stay here again.
