Washington Crossing Historic Park

Attraction details
Owner description: The 500-acre Washington Crossing Historic Park (PA) hosts thousands of visitors every year, from local schoolchildren to visitors from around the world, who come to see the point from which a battered and dispirited American army launched a counterattack that reversed its long losing streak, preserving its will to fight and maintaining the revolutionary spirit that would lead to independence for the United States. But Washington Crossing Historic Park represents much more than a single event. Restored Colonial buildings in the park, such as the Thompson-Neely House and McConkey Ferry Inn, give many clues about living conditions during the Revolutionary era. Later, homes and shops reveal how 19th-century rural Pennsylvanians lived and worked. Among them are the home of a prosperous merchant, a village general store, and homes for skilled artisans. The park also contains Bowman's Hill Tower, Revolutionary War soldiers' graves, stone memorials, picnic pavilions and historic collections.

The museum was nice and warm for such a cold day. The shop was small but interesting and the staff was friendly and helpful.

Start at the visitor center to get information about everything the park has to offer. There is a film here about the most important 10 days of the Revolutionary War. We had just come from the park on the NJ side and had seen the film already. Well worth it.

Take a tour and go in the many houses open. We enjoyed a long presentation by the tailor who told us everything we wanted to know about the clothes of the time. We also saw the replicas of the boats used to cross the Delaware.

Nice location on the river with walking trails and picnic areas. Very enjoyable park.

The Park is beautiful and the tour is awesome! Our tour guide was David Price. He was a fountain of knowledge about the crossing and the area. He also has written a book, "Rescuing the Revolution" which is available in their store and since he was there, he autographed it for us. We were there on a cool and sunny day. Some soldiers from the Revolutionary War were there setting up tent and cooking and one of them was tailoring some new pants. I could go on...

Nice area for walking. Staff in Visitor's center were very nice. Facility seems pretty tired. At least half of the toilets in the ladies room were out of order. It seems due to budget cuts, buildings are now on limited hours. Most were closed on a Monday. Maybe they could pick a different day since a long weekend usually includes a Monday?
