I've had some really agreeable experiences with Red Roof Inns, and I particularly appreciate their pet-friendly policy. I think the last one I stayed in was in Cortland, upstate NY, and I was quite happy.
This place in Trevose isn't much different, essentially, though the architectural layout is different. But still, it's the same 2-story motel, where you can park right in front of your room, to be able to unpack and pack the car easily.
The beds are comfortable enough, the linens and towels are clean, there's a widescreen TV, a fridge, a microwave, a tiny coffeemaker with coffee pods - all that's missing is cream + donuts!
EXCEPT for one BIG PROBLEM: THE ROACHES! I WAS STUNNED! I've stayed at a lot of non-first-class hotel/motels - even crummy hostels + YMCAs when I was much younger - and I have never, EVER, seen a roach in my room. I've met some ill-mannered proprietors or staff, but never roaches! (LOL)
And I'm not talking 1 or 2 -- I killed 3 adults in the bathroom and 3 juveniles, and when I came out of the bathroom, I saw one in my cat's carrier, and one running away from the litter box. I went to get a glass of water to take medication - there was a roach in the sink.
Do NOT blame the problem on my cat! We've traveled from Philadelphia PA to Ottawa Ontario and much in between, and never a roach to be seen. What, did Covid change the cockroach genome, so they are slowly taking over?? The horror!!
I know it's hard to get rid of an infestation, but, full disclosure: entomology is a hobby of mine, and my husband has a degree in the field. It is possible to eliminate them, but it does take more of an effort than just some insecticide once a month. Sealing all baseboard plumbing holes, Combat discs, borax, diatomaceous earth, eliminating all food sources. The food is particularly difficult, because roaches are omnivorous and eat all sorts of weird stuff, like some paper, or glue.
So much for sleep. Just past 4 AM and the insects have induced such distress, here I am, writing another review.
In conclusion, I like the Red Roof chain, I got a $64 deal through booking.com, it's basically a good motel - just bring some Combat discs if you decide to stay at this one! Good luck!
