Staff at front

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 5 Aug 2024
Staff are very very rude at front desk to the pint we had a staff person constantly yelling had a very bad attitude any time you would approach on towels or anything how she is working front desk is beyond me the poor manager has not control over staff she seems over worked
We were told we have to smoke 100 feet from hotel which is great no problem but all staff smoke right outside building
Told they don’t clean rooms
Told we don’t have late check out
Yes it is in a great place for doing things downtown but staff especially front need to go no proper customer politeness at all very very rude
Date of stay: August 2024
Room Tip: Be prepared to experience rudeness at front desk

This is the second Springhill we've stayed at this month that was not good.
We weren't given our usual perks for being high level Bonvoy members. We had to ask for water and our room was next to the elevator and ice machine.
The heater was on in our room when we arrived. In July. In Pittsburgh.
There was no facial tissue or bar soap.
The lighting in the whole room was horrible. I couldn't even see to put on make up. I was told "they're working on it".
The sheets were old and worn.
Breakfast was ok, but one of the employees running it was over the top. She was loud and talking all the time to everyone. I like to eat in quiet. This wasn't quiet.
They have to be surviving because they are close to the ballpark. It's certainly not because of the quality of the hotel.

Room tip: Don't stay here

Dear guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I'm genuinely sorry to hear that your stay did not meet the high standards you’ve come to expect.

It’s disappointing to know we missed the mark with your Bonvoy perks and the room setup. I understand how frustrating it must have been to deal with the heater in July and the lack of basic amenities. The lighting issues and the breakfast atmosphere are also concerning, and I appreciate your feedback on these points.

We value your insights, and please rest assured that we are addressing these issues to improve our guest experience. Your comfort and satisfaction are our top priorities, and I hope we can have the chance to make it right on your next visit.

Warm regards,
Guest Experience Team

The best thing about this hotel was its location. Overall it feels a bit rundown and in desperate need of a refresh. The front desk staff wasn’t rude but were more interested in chatting with each other and disinterested in helping the guest.

Room tip: The parking lot gets crazy around Pirates game time so make sure you get there early to check in and get a spot

Rundown hotel with staff that just doesn’t try, just like the property down the street owned by the same Marriott franchisee that skimps on upkeep and maintenance.

Stayed 3 nights during a heatwave in July. Air conditioning for public areas was broken. Room a/c worked (more or less). Should have moved on night one but was too convenient to my business purpose for being in town.

I get it. Things break down. But my complaint is that management did absolutely NOTHING to provide info about the problem or try to make their guests a little more comfortable.

For example: no a/c in breakfast area. Why not set up a few fans to at least make an effort? Nope. Fans behind the front desk for staff, but no thought about guests.

Another example: was informed of the no a/c on check in. But had to ask for my options about staying elsewhere before the manager reluctantly said she’d waive the cancellation fee if I walked. Asked to check that ac in room actually worked before I decided and was flatly told no.

Another example: manager said they were working on the problem but not sure when it would be fixed. Later saw a maintenance guy so asked him, and he said they were waiting on a crane to lift the ac unit to the roof and it wasn’t coming for three more days. So I asked at front desk again about timeframe and was given the runaround. Even the attached restaurant had a sign saying no ac until July 11 but nope, no admission from front desk staff or manager about the real truth.

Capping all this runaround, they gave me a room just a few feet from a major highway despite my elite status (never acknowledged either). Room was poorly maintained. A/c couldn’t get the room temp below 75 degrees. Thermostat auto cool setting wouldn’t work. Closet door was removed. Hangers busted. Moldy shower curtain. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. Dingy comforter. Trash on the hallway floors and dirty cocktail glasses in public areas during my entire three night stay were never cleaned up. All adds up to clear signs of maintenance neglect and lack of desire by staff to do their jobs.

I regularly stay in the neighborhood for my company located here and won’t ever set foot in here again or its sister property. Avoid at all costs.

I stay three nights. I have used spring Hill suites in different locations before and have been satisfied but this location was very different.

First the good part. The location is literally right across the street from the ticket office corner of the ballpark which is what I wanted. However, there are other hotels that are right across the street from the ballpark including Holiday inn Express and Hyatt place which I would probably pick next time.

Now the bad parts.

1. This building has 10 floors plus the basement and only has two elevators. One of the elevators was out of order the whole entire three days of my stay. Needless to say this is a strain during busy hours like in the morning during breakfast or an hour before the ball game.

2. My sink was clogged. See photos.

3. When I arrived there was only one person at reception and they were not wearing any branded staff uniforms. This was consistent throughout my stay.

4. I received a high flor room facing Holiday inn Express. It was very dark with dim lighting and I was with a companion with bad eyesight. When we complained about how dark it was upon arrival they said they could not help us and would not change our rooms. We even ask for an extra lamp and they said they were out. 🙄🤷

5. Like I mentioned previously I have stayed at SpringHill suites before and this particular place was subpar compared to the others.

Room tip: If you want a hotel right across the street from the ballpark try Holiday inn Express or Hyatt place instead.

Dear guest, thank you for sharing your insightful feedback with us. We're delighted that our location perfectly suited your needs near the ballpark. However, we're sincerely sorry for the inconveniences you encountered during your stay. Your experience with the elevator and maintenance issues, coupled with the dim lighting in your room, does not reflect the high standards we strive to maintain. We deeply value your loyalty as a frequent guest of SpringHill Suites, and your comments will guide us in making necessary improvements. Please accept our apologies for falling short of your expectations. Remember, we are always here to help—if there is anything more we can do for you, please do not hesitate to let us know.

Our room had water damage in the closet area, no closet door any longer, a previous guests wet wash cloth in the shower, the bathroom sink backed up,the extra blanket had other peoples hair in it, the ice machine on our floor was broken, both phones in the room did not work and the front desk did nothing about it. We had to go all the way downstairs to get an iron and extra towels. The hotel is a bit run down. They advertised a fitness center and it didn’t exist. This is one reason we chose the hotel and had to go elsewhere and pay to work out. They gauged us on pricing. Charging us $379 one night and $265 another plus another $100+ in fees. I am a Gold Marriott member and found this hotel way beyond standards. It’s was just an overall hugely unsatisfactory experience. I would never recommend this location. Of course, Marriott corporate just tosses you a couple points and does nothing about the fact that they are advertising a fitness area that just doesn’t exist and allows them to post photos that don’t represent the current condition of this hotel.

Room tip: Go elsewhere.
