The Priory Anniversary stay

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 11 Feb 2020via mobile
We loved staying at The Priory, a beautiful, historical hotel tucked away in the City of Pittsburgh's North Side. It was so quiet and peaceful and we loved The Monks Bar, the smallest greatest bar ever. We were within walking distance to dinner and attractions, and enjoyed a lovely continental breakfast in our room. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you, Michael and Audrey!

Zero complaints. Great breakfast, comfortable clean rooms. Super close to the Andy Warhol museum (a must visit). Major shout out to Tim at the Monks Bar! He was awesome and very attentive! 10/10 would stay here again

I knew I was getting a smaller room, but I could have never anticipated how TINY this room would be. My college dorm was twice the size. The carpets are very gross (large stains all over the place; see attached picture). The shower is probably the worst thing about this room. The water pressure is so low that I had to stand with my back almost touching the wall to come in contact with the water and then it was either lava hot or polar plunge freezing. This tiny child-like room cost $120 for the night!!! Lastly, there's a lot of random men hanging around outside. I'm not from this area, but it feels pretty sketchy. The guy at the front desk was very nice, but overall this was a pretty terrible experience and would not recommend staying here.

As we’ve lived down the street from the Priory for the past 20 years, we often recommend the hotel for visiting friends and family. I can 100% trust their fine service, customer attention, detail, and congenial helpfulness. We recommend the Priory without hesitation!

We had a wonderful stay at the Priory and definitely enjoyed the ambiance of the hotel. Our room was clean and well-appointed with a comfortable bed and large bathroom. Breakfast was wonderful, and we enjoyed the delicious fresh fruit, homemade breads, coffee, juice, etc. The free parking was a nice bonus, and we loved the free shuttle ride to and from dinner and the theater! How nice to park the car at the hotel and still be able to enjoy an evening out without having to drive ourselves! The shuttle driver was personable and friendly, and we enjoyed talking with him.

The only issue that we had was the noise in our room. We were in room 104, which is right across from the front door and the reception area and next to the outdoor patio. Unfortunately, we could hear everyone having drinks on the patio and still more people returning to the hotel until the wee hours of the morning. There was also a wedding at the hotel while we were there, and we had to ask people waiting for a their cocktail hour/reception on the patio to move away from our door so that we could get in and out of our room. I'm not sure how this situation can be remedied, but I would definitely advise hotel guests to avoid room 104.

Room tip: Avoid room 104

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience with the Priory Hotel. We are very pleased that you like d the property and seemed to have a pleasant stay, aside from the noise which you discussed. First, please accept my sincere apology about your problems with noise and access to your room. We do try to be as careful as we can with our first floor guest rooms that they are not disturbed by ambient noise from the Front Desk area, hallways and bars. Our team members attempt to keep guests from congregating, and at 11:00 we will clear all common areas. If a group is making noise, we attempt to be proactive in keeping them quiet.. Obviously, as you were disturbed, we did not accomplish this in your case. We will review with team members what occurred and will again preach proactivity in minimizing noise so that this type of incident does not occur again. In the meantime, we would be delighted to host you again should you be in Pittsburgh. We will make sure that we locate you in a different area of the hotel. Please reach out directly to our General Manager, Rebecca Lazeration at rebecca@thepriory.com to make accommodations. Thank you again for taking the time to post your review.

Unusual. Our room was huge, but the bathroom was tiny. The shower was about 2.5 ft by 2.5 ft. Could not bend at all. Might have been better if it had a handheld shower head to reach parts I could not get too in such a tight space. Breakfast was donuts, cheese and pork meat. Worse was the shuttle. We wanted to go to PNC Park but the driver refused. He told us he would drop us off at a different location only.
He was playing right wing radio during the ride. When we called to return to the hotel, after the game, the same shuttle driver took 15 minutes to get us and, even though he saw us waiting at the corner we were told to wait, he refused to cross the street. We had to cross a bust street that had no stop lights. He didn't get out to help us in and was angry that my wife was not strong enough to close the sliding van door. He had to get out and do it. He was extremely rude.

Sir: Thank you for taking the time to evaluate our hotel. We very much value your feedback. Please know that we make every effort to ensure that each guest's stay at the Priory Hotel is as comfortable and relaxing as possible. It appears that we did not accomplish that with your stay, and for that please accept my sincere apologies. With regard to our bathrooms, our original wing is an adaptive fit into what had been an historic monastery. Each guest room is unique, and in some we unfortunately had to make the bathrooms smaller than we might have otherwise chosen in order to make the retrofit work. We do have some bathrooms with tubs (including all of our Deluxe King rooms in the new wing), which come in handy if space is a concern. With regard to your shuttle experience, there is no excuse for anything but the utmost in customer-focus on the part of our team members. We will certainly address this with our drivers. Last, also with regard to the shuttle, unfortunately the police do not permit us to drop off or pick up in front of the ballpark due to traffic concerns. Thank you again for your frank feedback. Should you be in Pittsburgh again, we would be delighted to host you and have you give us another try. Please contact our general manager, Rebecca Lazeration, at rebecca@thepriory.com should you wish. I am confident that you will have a better experience.
