While The Desmond hotel may have more amenities than other properties in Malvern, we definitely won’t be staying there again unless it is thoroughly scrubbed. The place is filthy. The carpeting in our suite wasn’t well-vacuumed, and, spotted as it is, it needs to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned -- so we avoided contacting it with bare feet. The elevator buttons were “gross.” The evening we arrived we noticed two glasses had been placed in the hallway for pick-up just outside a guestroom door, and they were still there when we left…five nights later. While COVID and the labor-shortage may have made hiring and staffing difficult, at this point these are no excuses for this property’s disgusting condition, especially since daily guestroom housekeeping is “limited” these days. This hotel garners lots of business from weddings, banquets, and conferences, and, during weather emergencies, more than 100 rooms may be booked to accommodate visiting powerline crews, so The Desmond may be successful financially without having to invest in basic maintenance and renovations/improvements. One needed but costly renovation to be considered: the HVAC system -- in our bedroom, it roared like a freight train. All these comments are unfortunate because the facility itself has the potential to be first-rate. If there’s a positive comment to be made, the individuals at the front desk are notably pleasant and helpful.
