Filthy...every square inch needs to be scrubbed, top to bottom -- then it could be great!

1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 6 Jan 2023
While The Desmond hotel may have more amenities than other properties in Malvern, we definitely won’t be staying there again unless it is thoroughly scrubbed. The place is filthy. The carpeting in our suite wasn’t well-vacuumed, and, spotted as it is, it needs to be replaced or thoroughly cleaned -- so we avoided contacting it with bare feet. The elevator buttons were “gross.” The evening we arrived we noticed two glasses had been placed in the hallway for pick-up just outside a guestroom door, and they were still there when we left…five nights later. While COVID and the labor-shortage may have made hiring and staffing difficult, at this point these are no excuses for this property’s disgusting condition, especially since daily guestroom housekeeping is “limited” these days. This hotel garners lots of business from weddings, banquets, and conferences, and, during weather emergencies, more than 100 rooms may be booked to accommodate visiting powerline crews, so The Desmond may be successful financially without having to invest in basic maintenance and renovations/improvements. One needed but costly renovation to be considered: the HVAC system -- in our bedroom, it roared like a freight train. All these comments are unfortunate because the facility itself has the potential to be first-rate. If there’s a positive comment to be made, the individuals at the front desk are notably pleasant and helpful.

Room Tip: If there's a noisy wedding group taking up the lobby, ask to be located at a distance.

I stayed at the Desmond with a friend while we were attending our 50th high school reunion. While I feared a noisy experience, the hotel and room were actually quite quiet. The bed was very comfortable. What I didn't like was the tiny bathroom with no fan. I took a shower, and ther humidity level was such that I had to come out into the room to get dressed so my clothes wouldn't stick to me. The carpet could have used a thorough vacuuming, as there were visible chunks of something left there by a previous guest. Ugh. Regarding the food, it was pretty standard, but not special. The mashed potatoes that came with my salmon dinner was full of butter -not good, since I have a heart condition. My salmon was a large portion, and cooked appropriately, but had a sauce with flax seeds all over it. My friend has a health condition, and cannot eat seeds. The asparagus was a bit overcooked. The spinach/strawberry salad with honey mustard dressing was fresh and tasty. Prior to our meal, we went to the bar and ate flavorless pita chips (but that's okay). The accompanying guacamole was also flovoless (not so good). The service was prompt and polite, which did add a lot to our experience. All in all, my experience at the Desmond was average, but nothing special. It is, of course, a 3-star hotel. Don't expect more.

Room tip: Don't choose a room near an exit; the door crash bars are noisy, and the door closings also.

HOW DARE this place charge the obscene amount of money they charge for a wedding reception!!!!

The filet mignon I received was the size of a silver dollar and about less than 1/2 thick and tasted like it has been frozen for months!!

Went there two weeks ago and had a perfect stay again. This is our fifth weekend getaway this year to the Desmond and always have a clean room and perfect grounds to walk on their trail and enjoy the restaurants right across the street. The staff is always friendly and thank you for being a Diamond member. The breakfast is great and the property beautiful. Thank you Desmond and see you soon.

This hotel must be a prime wedding spot, several were here, including the one we are attending, this weekend.
Pictures of the outside, lobby, our two queen room and bathroom, and the view out our room window are attached.

The room, overall hotel, and indoor pool were very nice.

The only real downside was the size, very small, of the bathroom.

We had breakfast twice in the “Fork & Bottle”, downstairs, that was very good both times.
