I stayed at the Desmond with a friend while we were attending our 50th high school reunion. While I feared a noisy experience, the hotel and room were actually quite quiet. The bed was very comfortable. What I didn't like was the tiny bathroom with no fan. I took a shower, and ther humidity level was such that I had to come out into the room to get dressed so my clothes wouldn't stick to me. The carpet could have used a thorough vacuuming, as there were visible chunks of something left there by a previous guest. Ugh. Regarding the food, it was pretty standard, but not special. The mashed potatoes that came with my salmon dinner was full of butter -not good, since I have a heart condition. My salmon was a large portion, and cooked appropriately, but had a sauce with flax seeds all over it. My friend has a health condition, and cannot eat seeds. The asparagus was a bit overcooked. The spinach/strawberry salad with honey mustard dressing was fresh and tasty. Prior to our meal, we went to the bar and ate flavorless pita chips (but that's okay). The accompanying guacamole was also flovoless (not so good). The service was prompt and polite, which did add a lot to our experience. All in all, my experience at the Desmond was average, but nothing special. It is, of course, a 3-star hotel. Don't expect more.
