Good, but Some Issues

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 7 Aug 2021
This is a nice hotel with a few issues. First the positives. Our two queen suite had one of the largest and nicest bathrooms we have ever see in hotel in this class. It also had a large walk-in closet, so plenty of storage. Overall, the hotel seemed clean and modern.

The room layout was odd, with a sitting area partially divided from the beds and a tv in-between them. The tv could be tilted, but it meant that only people in one of the area could see the tv and even then most people did not have a great view of the tv. They should just have a tv for each area.

The breakfast was abysmal. I understand it is a pandemic, but having to go to the front desk, wait for the one person to show up, ask for a pick up breakfast and then wait for them to go back and pack brown bag? Then what you get in each bag is an orange, a small bottle of water, a granola bar and a random yogurt? We have stayed in several other hotels during the pandemic and this was by far the worst breakfast experience we have had. Does not bode well for normal times.

Overall good, but we will try some place else next time.

The handle fell off of the bathroom door and the toilet paper holder fell off also. There was an empty water bottle above the bathroom door. I complained to the front desk and was moved. The next room had no hot water. Manager extremely rude. Stay away!

Room tip: Avoid this hotel as it has not been kept up and the manager doesn’t seem to care. Pool was closed and no hot breakfast.

How many staff members do you need to properly run a decent size hotel during a pandemic? I'd say a couple more than were there during our stay. Our stay wasn't bad, but there were a few things that concerned me.

First, the elevators were dirty. They needed a good vacuuming. One of them had potato chips on the floor of the elevator when we arrived. Two days later, when we left, the same chips were still on the floor of the elevator.

The breakfast was a brown paper bag with a granola bar and small bottle of water. Of course, a lot of hotels that offer complimentary breakfast have had to scale down their offerings during the pandemic, but this was a sad effort on the part of the hotel. I've been to hotels where two or three staff members prepare a variety of breakfast items, some hot, and pack a sizable bag breakfast for the guests. This was not one of them. At least they have coffee and tea available around the clock.

The heater was also pretty loud and I did struggle to fall asleep during my trip. The TV needs an upgrade. When I first turned it on, there was no picture. I had to call down to the front desk and I was instructed to unplug the TV and then manually press the power button. The remote had electrical tape on the battery cover.

On a positive note, I've stayed in a number of Sprinhill Suites in the region and this one seems to be a little bit wider than usual. The shower also has a jet spray that shoots water out horizontally at around torso level.

This is an unremarkable version of Marriott's SpringHill Suites. But to make it really bad, the Enhanced Wifi that they are supposed to have, for an upcharge, didn't work on a recent stay. I was planning to do an important Zoom videoconference on one of the days I was staying there, and the regular wifi was insufficient to power a videoconference. (Who remembers dial-up?) After staying one night, and spending four hours of my own time on the phone trying to troubleshoot and correct the problem with the offshore technical support center that they farm their tech support out to, we were unable to get it working, so I had to check out and find a decent hotel in the area. When I checked out, the clerk at the desk insisted on charging me for the full stay, with no consideration for the fact that the hotel did not provide what it promised, and that I had been extremely inconvenienced. I have stayed an average of 75-100 nights in Marriott hotels for nearly 30 years, and this was the first time I've ever encountered such a bad experience, and such an uncaring hotel associate. Stay away from this place. There are too many other good hotels who would love to have your business during the pandemic to waste one nickel on this joint.

As soon as we drove up to the hotel it smelled like marijuana. There was a car parked with loud music playing, people being loud partying near the fire pit. We can smell it outside, in the lobby, elevators . We checked into our room and it was not clean. There was food crumbs on the couch and chair. There were fingerprints all over bathroom, closet glass doors and the mirror next to the window. Maids never picked up dirty linens and trash other guest left out in the hall way for 2 days. The refrigerator was not clean and had food stains in it. There was black color long hair in the tub. It’s obvious this hotel is not taking COVID-19 seriously. The way they have ac/heating unit situated in the room is not good. Cold air hits directly on your face so you can’t sleep comfortably. I called front desk to address this situation and no one answers the phone. We were so exhausted from a long day so I mentioned this to front desk attendant the next day. She said I have to call Monday and speak to the manager . During our stay at this hotel it’s very hard to get in touch with the front desk attendants. Phone keeps ringing and ringing. These are not the Marriott standards we are accustomed to.

My family and I stood here for a baseball tournament in Pottstown which was a quick 25 minute ride. The hotel is situated in a quiet area that boasted a mini mall (Wegman's is AWESOME there) that had a lot of places to eat- less than 15 minutes away by car. The hotel staff was nice and accommodating; rooms were clean and everyone seemed to observe the social distancing policy. No maid service and most of the amenities were inaccessible due to COVID . You had to ask for towels and toiletries. Good stay.
