Good value for money.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 14 Aug 2016
Nice service and kindly staff. Walking distance to town. Kitchen facilities adequate for a longer stay.
A little bit too noisy, we had the room close to the main road, Lack of products in bathroom: soap, shampoo, conditioner.
Good value for money.
Date of stay: June 2016
Room Tip: The rooms at the street are not so quiet.

The receptionist said there were no queen rooms available and initially offered us a triple room at extra cost. We evidently looked a little dismayed at the thought of paying a higher rate, when she suggested the guest house. It was a gem. There are four(?) rooms upstairs , each with private en suite, and separate key. A huge kitchen and communal area downstairs - and the whole house is recently refurbished and very modern. So long as you don't mind a staircase this would surely be one of the best value accommodation in Byron Bay.
Located less than 10 minutes walk from Jonson Street it was a great location and staff were happy to recommend dining options.

Location - convenient bikeride into town or 2 mins in car.
On main road into the suburbs but no real traffic noise
Style - I like what they have done to update an old motor inn. The tropical feel & pop of colour on the doors really work with the location. Picnic table and lawn area are nice.
Service - Pleasant. We only saw staff at check in so cant comment on further help w activities etc. Offered fresh milk & wifi codes on arrival which was nice
The details - found this disappointing. The couch was horribly uncomfortable. The pillows, which looked plump and nice on the bed, were too high to sleep on. The bathroom amenities were almost non existant. No soap?! 2 x shampoo&conditioner (in one) sachets to use, which I found quality wise to be average.
While it's hard to do much about, the sound from both our neighbours was terrible. We heard one lady coughing all night on one side, and were woken the next morning by bloke on the other side talking. You cant complain about these noises to have your neighbours asked to keep it down, they aren't doing anything wrong - but it was just very average, sound proofing wise.
All in all, I would not stay again.

Stayed 3 nights at Byron Bay. The new guest house built behind the reception is a lovely find. Four upstairs guest rooms each with private balcony (motel style rooms with a modern vibe including his/hers wash basins) and downstairs a beautiful shared guest lounge, massive fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher and granite bench tops, outdoor setting and lounge room. Only 15 minute walk into Byron centre. Free parking.

Room tip: Up stairs guest room at the back (away from the road). Has a private balcony

Byron Bay is a quite expensive place to visit. Thus, it is not a surprise that all regular hotels (not youth hostels with dorm beds) are at least near or more than AU$200 per night.

Dolphins' Inn is much cheaper, at around AU$140. I think it is quite clean, the room is big (and my room even has a handicap access bathroom, and thus, quite spacious) and the bed is comfy. The tradeoff is that it is relatively far from Byron Bay's commercial center and the main beach. It is at least 20 minutes walk to the center, and maybe nearly 30 minutes to the beach.

There is a nice cafe just next door. However, it closes in mid-afternoon. For dinner, you will need to head into the town.

The Wi Fi works quite well. And if you have more than one computer (or you need to use Wi Fi for both your computer and your smart phone), you can get more than one passcode from the front desk.

Overall, it is a good place if you have a car. There are a lot of parking spots. If you arrive by bus or other public transportation, it is a bit walk from the bus station. However, it is definitely walkable to the town center and the beaches.

We booked into the Dolphin at the last minute as we decided to stay one more night in Byron Bay & couldn't remain at the same place. The receptionist was very helpful & friendly and the room was really lovely. We were able to do our washing there for $3 but there is no dryer & unfortunately it got soaked in a downpour just before we had to leave. This was easily fixed as there is a large washateria in the main town. The Dolphin is a bit out of the town centre so maybe a bit cheaper than the competition. We would definitely come back again.
