Stayed the Porth Avellen recently for three nights, was blown away with the view on arrival ( if you can ,book a sea view room) .The hotel is very clean , tidy and comfortable, bedroom was of the same, the staff were very helpful and friendly the manager ( boss ) was very professional and helpful advising places to visit and things to do. The breakfasts were very good and evening meals exceptional, wine list was of good range and price. If you are looking to relax and unwind this is the hotel for you. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and look forward to returning in the near future

Stayed here for 2 nights with work and took advantage of my free time to visit Charlestown and the beaches within walking distance. The hotel is great lots of parking and the location overlooks the sea. The staff where friendly and professional and the food in the restaurant is amazing.

I hope i get to stay here again on my next visit to take advantage of the views and area. Most of the time I'm a lone traveller and this would suit me perfectly, the staff make you feel comfortable and you're not treated like a number but a proper guest

Keep up the good work hope to visit again

Booked on the off chance and was pleasantly surprised. Family run hotel that was well run, friendly and ticked all the boxes. We had the sea facing room with a view that was spectacular from our four poster bed. The reception rooms were old with a modern twist that made the guests feel at home whilst enjoying a drink and enjoying the view across the bay. Will definitely go again.

Last minute booking resulted in a fantastic break. Hotel was in an excellent location and we were not disappointed by the stunning sea views from our room. Staff were all very friendly, breakfast was good, had smoked salmon and scrambled egg which was delicious. Met some interesting people in the hotel bar and enjoyed a good rapport with George, who was very knowledgeable about the area. Hotel is a great base to explore Cornwall - we will definitely be back

On the plus side:
+ amazing views
+ quiet location
+ kind and helpful staff
+ spotlessly clean
+ lots of hot water
BUT....
- ‘Basil’ (the manager) was quite sharp (rude!) in his comments to us and his staff
- breakfast was awful e.g. cheap tinned peaches and prunes (though, in fairness) the cooked breakfasts may have been ok
- significantly over priced
- dated decor
- room 7 was noisy- we were disturbed by other guests
