Stayed here for a conference at the hospital nearby. Very dated, and not in the best of ways. Creaky floors, old locks, single key for each room, few amenities in the rooms. Dark and a bit dingy, with carpet that clearly has seen better days, a bit of rust on all the fixtures in the bathrooms, and drapes that incompletely keep out the morning light. The heat was on but we couldn't adjust it. If you need AC in the summer, I'm not sure I'd trust it. We needed a power converter, and were told we could use one for 5 pounds. There is nothing nearby, except the hospital. They can get you a taxi, if you ask 15 or 20 minutes before. Breakfast was included, and was unfortunately pretty sketchy. "A proper English breakfast", everyone says, if that includes an egg and ham, with potatoes that were definitely from a box and "grilled tomatoes" that were pretty unripe. They offer poached eggs and porridge if you ask, but the poached eggs were well done and actually looked fried. Yogurt was available, but it was sweet and not so good. When prunes are the fresh fruit that is out, it's not going to be the best of days.
The bar was okay; limited but service was reasonable. Maybe better to continue into Manchester proper if you're in the region and looking for a place to stay.
