“Perfect little gem!”
Reviewed 30 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

My husband and I are traveling throughout the UK for two months. This lovely home was our third. It is situated just off the beaten path with all of High Street around the corner. There is a lovely walking path right behind the house that goes along the river.

The house is small, but even square inch has been used to its advantage. There was never a thing we looked for and didn't find. Highly recommend!

“The Manse is a perfect place to stay in the centre of Marlborough.”
Reviewed 16 September 2014 for a stay in September 2014

The Manse is a lovely cottage situated in the centre of Marlborough. That said, it is a quiet place to stay less than 5 minutes to local shops, pubs and places to eat.

The house itself is beautifully decorated with lovely tasteful furniture. The bathroom is lovely and hot water is available all of the time. The small but well planned kitchen was well equipped.

The two double bedrooms are restful with nice bedding.

The whole house was very clean on our arrival.

We really enjoyed our stay here.

The house is spacous and well equipped with kitchen utensil and electric appliances. Decoration is warm and nice with reliable wifi connection. Suitable for family with or without kids.

Thankyou for your very positive review. We were pleased to hear that it worked out well for the Marlborough College Summer School and that you would like to book again for 2015. We are already taking bookings for then, so as soon as you have the dates let me know and I will block them out for you.

Best wishes - Richard & Sue

“Home from Home and the owners (and neighbours) go the extra mile”
Reviewed 22 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

We stayed at 1 The Manse for five days earlier this month.

The booking was taken easily and instructions, along with a map, arrived by email a few days before we travelled

We were very comfortable in the house. The beds were so comfy it was very difficult to move from them in the morning - but move we did and took ourselves off to Stonehenge, Old Sarum, Longleat and Warwick Castle during our stay!

The shower was excellent, even having a longer, separate, attachment so you could just wash your hair rather than have a full shower (very useful when you just want to blow dry your hair after getting caught in the heavy downpours we had during the week). That also came in handy for our son, who is only seven, as the main shower is wonderfully powerful but the separate attachment was a little less daunting for him. Having a separate toilet, as well as the one in the main bathroom, was a Godsend too - even if the house has just two bedrooms it is handy in the morning rush.

If there was one, very small, "wish it were there" it would be that the washing machine were a washer/dryer. As it rained most days at some point, we couldn't hang clothes outside so had to move the clothes airer about depending on where we needed space. It didn't detract from the enjoyment of the house though and, as we were out most of the day, it was only an issue when we returned to get ready to go out for a meal.

Though the house is situated just behind the fire station and across the road from pubs, indian and chinese takeaways (the latter do very good fish and chips by the way) and is within five minutes walk of the main high street, it was so peaceful. We had the windows open each night and I am a person who wakes when an ant sneezes - I slept right through every night.

The kitchen is very well equipped with a microwave as well as the normal oven/hob. It is a small kitchen but everything you would expect to see is there. A full size fridge/freezer is in the living room (just because the kitchen is small). It is built in so doesn't make any noise when you're watching TV - with a seven year old you don't tend to have a hectic night life...and you certainly don't notice it in the room.

Having wifi was a definite bonus and very useful for booking tickets on line for our days out.

The whole house is very tastefully decorated. Often when you go to holiday lets you find slightly cheaper furnishings. Not at the Manse. The owners obviously take pride in the house.

Their neighbours, who usually manage the property, were away on holiday when we arrived but were extremely friendly when they arrived towards the end of our holiday.

On returning home last Friday my husband realised he had lost his glasses. He remembered that he had been to the local indian restaurant for a takeaway on our final night and called them. They confirmed that they had his glasses. The owners of The Manse asked the neighbours if they could collect hubby's specs and mail them to us, which they did and they arrived safely (in a new specs case as well) yesterday. Now that is service!

We would definitely recommend The Manse and the next time we are in the area it will be our first choice for accommodation.

So pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay at The Manse. Many thanks for the most informative review we have ever had! So much detail and I think it will give anyone looking to book a really good idea about the house and the area. We try really hard to keep both our holiday lets up to scratch and as homely as possible. We love both houses and are happy to stay in either; a good test of whether they are well equipped and good enough to let other people stay in. We are very lucky to have Diane & Jonathan to look after The Manse for us and they really look after all our guests. If you would like to make a return visit we would be very pleased to hear from you.
With best wishes
Richard & Sue

Fabulous house and location. The house is well equiped, very clean and comfortable. Perfect location just off the High St but very quiet, the caretaker Jonathan is helpful and has a great sense of humour. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to this cottage and location again
