“Wow! beautiful, clean family run house, incredible location”

The only problem I had with this house was leaving. We arrived in thick snow to the family owned house. The owners were amazing, they ensured our stay was a fantastic one. The house is an old farmhouse, built on beautiful surrounds. The tap water is fresh spring water, and the house itself is warm, safe and clean. The locals were great, offering us freshly laid eggs and milk. My husband and I with our two children aged 4 and 6 years booked the house to meet with family in the region, and as it was so beautiful, they all came and visited us and we were able to entertain thanks to the well equipped and spacious kitchen. Truly magical place with lovely people, comfy bedrooms and great value for money. We are already planning a re-visit to see the views in a different season.

“Beautiful cottage in a secluded and peaceful setting”
Reviewed 10 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

We were given a very warm welcome to this lovely property. Although described as a cottage, it is in fact very spacious - the kitchen in particular is roomy, as well as well-equipped. The master bedroom is also a very good size, while the other two bedrooms are cosy and quaint. The extra shower room on the ground floor is a very welcome addition. The open coal fire in the living-room was a real bonus and was put to full use during our snowy stay.

As other reviewers have said, the views around the cottage are simply stunning, particularly under a thick blanket of snow as we saw them. For walkers, runners, cyclists, horseriders and birdwatchers, as well as those who are just looking for a bit of peace and quiet and a break from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this would be an ideal rental property.

Liked least: The VERY steep ascent from Hebden Bridge via Church Road - we took a different route after the first time

“Lovely cosy cottage with amazing views...”

Just back from a lovely short break at Rough Top, a quintessential moorland character cottage, with exposed beams, 2' thick walls and truly panoramic views across the Upper Calder valley. Private and secluded with its own enclosed garden and patio area, it comfortably sleeps 5 adults, with two bathrooms and a large well equipped farmhouse kitchen. An ample supply of coal and wood is provided for the open fire for those cosy winter nights. We found a wealth of eating establishments and hostelries in the area with a good choice of local ales. An ideal area for ramblers and cyclists with a range of challenges to cater for all abilities. We would recommend visiting nearby Hardcastle Crags with lovely walks along the wooded river and Stoodley Pike, a large local landmark with a surprise!
We can highly recommend Rough Top Holiday Cottage and we have already booked to stay again next year.
