Nice, newer Fairfield but with a couple minor concerns.

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Oct 2023
Relatively newer facility. Well kept, clean, Quiet. Nice staff. Actually had two places to put 2 suitcases! Very rare and very good. Despite these positives, there were minor problems. The water in the sink was a weak trickle. The body wash, conditioner, and shampoo dispensers were in nearly identically labeled dispensers. The contents were identified in nearly invisible, tiny, low contrast fonts in a color combination that only some weeny-brained, non-traveling, inexperienced, color-blind, non-designer could think was desirable. The brand name was the only thing that was easily read. Apparently the contents didn’t matter. If someone had just awakened and would normally wear glasses, they wouldn’t be able to read the contents. Just another idiotic piece of design over function. Graphics are forms of communication. This piece of eye pain doesn’t do that. Those products are exclusive to Marriott and their online sales, so fortunately they don’t have fight for shelf space and brand identification. Otherwise, their sales probably would not keep them on the shelves for long. So just tell the user what is inside and de-emphasize the brand I.D. Anyone wanting more of the product could pursue the brand as they choose. And as an exclusive Marriott product, with probably near negligible retail sales. I would doubt that product line generates much, if any, meaningful profit. At least the shower had decent water pressure.
The breakfast was poor. For some reason the eggs and sausages ran out before 8am. When they did bring out the sausages, they were so overcooked, that they could have been the beginning of tube jerky or a new form of bullets. Hard and tough would have been an understatement.

Key issues from my latest experience this past weekend:
1. Disingenuous and indifferent front desk staff with complete disregard of Customer's care.
2. Horrible beds with foul urine smell and stains all over underneath the bedsheet - mattress protector and the mattress.
3. Bad management - barely anything left to eat around 8 am morning for breakfast.
4. Dishonest staff:
4.a. The 1st night - after I requested another room because of the foul-smelling bed - front deck staff said they didn't have any spare room and after about 25 minutes of waiting and contemplating to check in to another hotel - the front desk lady said they had another room that was only for emergencies.
4.b. Bread toaster was missing, so asked front desk and they responded that they were sorry - they don't have a toaster. I mentioned that pictures on the internet shows a toaster and they mentioned they never had one. The next morning - there was a toaster in the breakfast area.

Details:
1. We had booked two rooms, one for our parents and another for me/my wife and our 5-year-old. First, we helped our parents settle down in the room and then we started settling in ours.
2. Around 11pm, my wife started to put our 5-year-old to bed. We noticed that the bed smelled really bad, so I went up to the front desk and told them about the bad smell.
3. The gentleman at the front desk (didn't have name tag on) asks me what it smelled like, and I told him it smelled really bad and then his exact words were "was it smelling like that before you entered the room?"
4. I found that question to be irrelevant - not sure how I would know what it smelled like before I entered the room! Also, he was trying to imply that somehow, I caused the smell after I checked in. So, I just requested him to go and check the room for himself.
5. He came in and smelled the bed, then removed the sheets and the protector underneath the sheet and the mattress - both were covered in brown/dark yellow stains all over and it smelled horrible.
6. My kid was very tired and sleepy and the lady at the reception and the gentleman who came and checked the room told me that they didn't have any other room and that they will check for a spare mattress.
7. All of us left the room (room 133) and after about 25-30 minutes of waiting outside the room, the lady and reception told us that they did have another room across our room. I went to the other room (134) and checked underneath the sheets, the protector and mattress were also covered in pee stains, but it didn't smell, so we had no choice but to shift to the other room and knowingly sleep on pee stains covered bed.
8. The next morning, around 8 we all went for breakfast, and it was a complete mess, floor was messy, there was no food left, there were some pieces of bread but no toaster. Asked for toaster and staff mentioned they didn't have one. The next morning - there was a toaster in the breakfast area.

Room tip: Uncomfortable beds with horrid urine smell and dishonest staff

Stayed here for two nights recently. We had a suite. The room was clean and comfortable. We had to ask to have our room refreshed and get clean towels for the second day. The front desk staff was nice and friendly. The breakfast was OK, but not close to the one we had at another Fairfield in Lancaster, PA. The wifi was good and the location was convenient.

Did not find this Fairfield up to the Marriott standards. Our room was clean but for a party of two we only had 3 bath towels one hand towel and one washcloth. Breakfast was typical cheese omelets, sausage, oatmeal, waffles, yogurt. But no fruit, when I asked about fruit. I was told should have been here earlier
Breakfast ran from 6am to 9am. Our headboard of the bed was against the wall of the kitchen. Around 5:15, 5:30 AM, the kitchen was banging, clanging pots in preparation for breakfast. This continued for over an hour. So don't except room 123 if you want to get any sleep. Also there is no housekeeping. On day 2 when I went to desk to get toilet paper, tissues and towels because our room was not made up, I was informed that I needed to request room service. This was news to us. The hotel is in a good area to resturants .

This is a pretty new Fairfield inn. The facility is very clean. Front desk staff were friendly. It is expensive. And they upped the rate about $70 on Friday night. The breakfast was skimpy. Their refrigerator was broken, so no yogurts, etc. On Saturday morning they ran out of oatmeal and waffle mix. When some people asked about it, the workers got a little testy. The facility is nice, but for the prices I was paying I expect more.

Room tip: Double check the breakfast bar before relying on it.

I frequent Marriot locations; however, this was by far the worse experience I’ve had. If I could give a 0, I would, but I oblige the rating system that’s here with a “1”. There was a progression of things gone wrong, which was heightened by the fact that I had a cluster of other hotel options in the area…but I chose this place due to its ratings.

First issue was that I’ve booked two rooms, both of which the TV’s were inoperable. Room one’s TV was frozen, lagging and none of the remotes worked. I’ve requested a remote that handled the selection options, but TV was still completely slow in selecting channels. Room two’s TV had the same problem. But each time I’ve gotten a new remote, a new issue arose. Initially the TV would not select channel options. After switching remote, the TV volume and power off wouldn’t work. 3rd time, given a remote, volume worked but TV would not shut down. There was no disconnect option, so I had to “sleep” the entire night with the TV on, which lead to NO sleep.

Second issue was breakfast, which was held 7:30-9:30AM. We were downstairs at 8:30. Where do we start? The options were below Motel 6 standards. The only food options we had were scrambled eggs and sausage. I asked where the waffles are, the staffer replied, “The waffle man didn’t come today.” There were NO carb alternatives, e.g., potatoes. We only had sliced bread and a 2 selection of bite size muffins. There was no yogurt or oatmeal. Oatmeal was in “the crockpot and will take 45minutes.” I asked about fruit in which 2 apples and 1 orange sat deserted on the fruit rack.

Thirdly, there was hair in every conspicuous area of the room: the sink in the bathroom AND the shower soap rack. This room obviously was not cleaned.
The pool wasn’t cleaned either. Given its small size, it should have been attended to.

Lastly, I wanted to complain and reconcile while at front desk, but no one was there. I was already billed the morning of and felt slighted and unheard upon my exit. Hence, this review.

Overall, my overall, small R&R overnight stay here was everything but that. I went home with bags under my eyes, hungry, and disappointed that my charge for 2 rooms at $400 each was a waste!

Room tip: Write a list of complaints upon entry and take them to front desk to require addressing before entry!
